Description: Typescript draft of a guide to New Zealand placenames and meanings. Each entry includes the postal district and location for the place, suburb or town mentioned. Also included is a descriptive meaning for each location. Some entries have been annotated at a later point in ink. Throughout the volume are examples of postmarks from New Zealand post offices. Many of the placenames cited are historic in origin, for example: Zalatown, which is a ghost town near Lyell. The inside cover depicts sketches of New Zealand Post Office buildings, old and new. Diary and photographs relating to a trip to Japan

Description: Diary kept by Henry Jull on his travels (for business and pleasure) around Japan in 1917, entitled `A Trip to the East'. Henry Jull describes the trip to Japan aboard the SS `Moeraki' with troops from the 23rd and 24th New Zealand Mounteds. Following a stopover in Australia, Henry Jull transfers to the SS `Tango Maru', where he also visits the Phillipines, Hong Kong and China before arriving in Japan. Once in Japan he visits gardens, palaces and the cities of Yokohama, Kyoto, Hakone, Nagoya, Nara and Kobe. Mr Jull appears to have been a businessman and trader of some sort. He notes at one point the goldfish he is bringing back to New Zealand. On his return voyage to New Zealand he visits Honolulu, San Francisco and Fiji. The diary is interspersed with photographs of the trip including a photograph of surfers in Honolulu. Quantity: 1 volume(s).

Description: Papers of Mrs Huggan while she was mayor of Petone. Mainly papers relating to the Petone Borough Council, including agendas, minutes, reports, correspondence etc of the committees on which she was active, clippings, and other papers. Also included are files relating to the reorganisation of local government, and papers of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council and Hutt Valley Patriotic Welfare Committee. Also included is a scrapbook compiled by Joseph Huggan, 1931-1955, relating to Korokoro and to his time as mayor (from 1950). Pre-1957 Petone Borough Council papers relate to his time as mayor. Source of title - Supplied Annie Huggan was mayor of Petone (1957-1965) taking over from her husband, Joseph, who died in 1957. He was mayor of Petone, 1950-1957. Description: Collection comprising material accumulated by Maree Kibblewhite relating to her life and interests; particuarly in theatre and music, Palmerston North, and ephemera. Some material relates to school and amateur productions of works by New Zealand composers. Namely: a vocal score of Ross Harris' The Clockmaker; programmes and 6 photographs of St Matthews Collegiate and Rathkeale College, Masterton, production of Philip Norman's `A Stab in the Dark', 1977; and the libretto for this production. Also includes a scrapbook album containing correspondence, handouts, programmes, clippings and photographs relating to the 1971 production of Jenny McLeod's `Under the Sun', of which Moxon was a member of the cast. Photographs taken by unidentified photographers show: - Palmerston North sports teams (taken between 1908 and 1911). - Master Builders' Federation conferences (taken between 1938 and 1950). - School opera production from 1977 featuring composer Philip Norman. Includes ephemera relating to Wellington businesses, local body elections, theatre, and lobby groups. Manuscript material is part of the Archive of New Zealand Music. Title supplied by Library. Information professional Maree Kibblewhite was previously known as Maree Moxon. She has lived in Palmerston North and Wellington; and has been active in school and amateur theatre and musical productions. Her father Richard Moxon was a master builder based in Palmerston North.
