Description: Reminiscences of Whyte describing his 21-year career in the army and later in the navy; he describes his time in school cadets (1946-1947), compulsory military training in the second intake (1950), his time in the medical corps of the Territorial Forces (1951-1953), in the Regular Force including ANZUK Hospital, Singapore, 2RNZIR Malaysia (1959-1961), 161 Battery RNZA in South Vietnam (1968) and most camps in New Zealand. He also writes of his four years at the RNZN hospital at Devonport. Description: Collection comprises three travel albums compiled by Bosdet which include details of her visits to New Zealand. Albums are in scrapbbok format and include diary entries, photographs, postcards, ephemera, maps, sketches and printed booklets. Source of title - Supplied by Library Bosdet worked as a school inspector and in museum education. She visited New Zealand three times on personal trips and on behalf of the Advisory Council for Education (ACE). Quantity: 3 volume(s). 0.03 Linear Metres. Physical Description: Holograph, typescripts, photographs, ephemera, sketches and printed matter Provenance: The collection was originally depsoited with the Institute of Education, University of London by an unidentified donor in 2009. Holt, A Barbara, fl 1923-1960 : Diary of a New Zealand holiday

Description: Comprises foreword by Holt re background to travels and mostly daily diary entries describing the voyage from England to Malaya and then to Singapore, a further voyage to Australia and travelling in Australia, arriving at Perth and travelling by land across to Melbourne and later to Canberra, Townsville, Sydney and other places before coming to NZ on the `Monowai' in Dec 1935. Holt further describes her travels in NZ, partly based in Wairoaiti near Napier, but visiting family members in Taupo, Rotorua, the Chateau, and travelling extensively in the South Island. Interspersed are transcriptions of letters she wrote to her family in England, and line illustrations. Holt describes her South Island travels which began 31 Jan 1936 via Picton, Christchurch and environs, Dunedin, Invercargill, Manapouri and Doubtful Sound, the Milford and Greenstone tracks, Queenstown, the Routeburn, Wanaka and the Haast Pass, up the West Coast and back to Wairoaiti before leaving from Port Chalmers. Source of title - Transcribed from auction entry Holt travelled to NZ via Malaya and Australia from 9 Aug 1935 to 5 Jun 1936; kept a diary as well as writing letters home.
