Description: Programme booklet for a dance recital contains photographs of King Albert in military uniform, and a group of (probably Belgian) children standing in fur coats. The programme lists tableaux and dances. Tableaux include "Belgium" (Mona Mackay), "The Allies" (with women representing England (Miss M Miller), France (Miss Woodham), Russia (Miss Lewis), Servia (Miss E Miller), Japan (Miss Hipkins), and Belgium (Miss Mona Mackay). The dance pupils are all listed with the items they performed. Other variety perfomers were Mr J W Ryan, Mr Alan McElwain, Mr F G Bourke. The programme contains advertisements for many Auckland businesses. There is also a cartoon "Bravo! Belgium" by F H Townsend showing brave Belgium protecting a field from a fierce German soldier carrying sausages and a big stick. Quantity: 1 Programme(s). Description: Dismissed carpenters march along Queen Street, Auckland, 22 February 1949, protesting at the result of a dispute with the Auckland Master Builders' Association that left them unemployed. Photographer unidentified. Original caption from the New Zealand Free Lance, March 2. 1949, page 25 reads: Auckland Carpenters' Protest. After a meeting in the Town Hall, Auckland, which about 1,200 carpenters attended to hear speakers trace the history of the dispute with the Auckland Master Builders' Association, about 700 dismissed carpenters marched down Queen Street and up to Albert Park. One of them is amazed that his mate would pick as winner for the Melbourne Cup a mare with no form but a third man points out that Auckland has chosen a 'mare with no form' as its mayor. Refers to the election of Len Brown as the first mayor of the new supercity - which consists of a single unitary authority called the Auckland Council made up of the Auckland Regional Council and seven territorial authorities - became a reality on 1st November 2010. Description: View from above Grafton Gully, covered in dense bush, with fenced hills and Governor Hobson's grave in the cemetery to the left. Government House is left of centre in the middle distance and three other houses overlooking Grafton Gully are somewhat closer on the right, one of them the home of William Connell, the first Postmaster-General and his wife Isabella. In the distance across the water, the flagstaff marks Mount Victoria, with Rangitoto beyond that. The flat island further off, left of centre is Tiritiri. Painted in early 1843, before the artist moved to an appointment at Russell. A fence has been raised around Governor Hobson's grave. The funeral had taken place in November 1842.
