Statements from Dotcom show Banks told him: "I want to help you Kim and I can help you more effectively if no-one knows about this donation." English states 'Dodgy wheel John . . . do we change it?' Key replies they can't as there's no spare. Context: A series of scandals involving John Banks increasingly made him a liability to the Key-led National Government. There were calls for Key to remove Banks as coalition partner in the government.
