There are two photographs, taken at the same time, one of which is dated 1938 in Godber Album Vol 100, p 82; and the other is dated 1940 (Godber Album Vol 100, p 42). Description: Exterior view of the front of the Arowhenua Hotel, Arowhenua, South Canterbury, photographed between 1937 and 1941. Shows a two storied wooden building with the name of publican W J Quirke above a doorway. A sign on one wall advertises Speight's ales. A brick house and a horse drawn cart are on the right, behind the hotel. William Quirke took over the license for Arowhenua Hotel in June 1937, and transfered it in 1941.
