Description: Map of Alicetown, Lower Hutt, and the northern part of Petone, between present day Railway Ave southeastwards to the Hutt River, southwards of Wakefield Street to section 6-8; and westwards to Maungaraki. Shows the street layout, with the following streets named: Montague, Valentine, Buckley, Alice, and White's Line (present day Wakefield Street). The area between present day Victoria Street and the Hutt Road is called Te Mome. There is an annotated pink 'x' on the Hutt Road opposite the Hutt Station, with a note on Wakefield Road that it is midway between the Hutt and Petone railway stations. On section 8 is the annotation '5 acres of this section'. A pencil annotation reads 'offer of site for factory purposes'. Some named streets on map no longer exist due to changing course of the Hutt River. Stamped on recto: 4 Mar 1905. Petone. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: A base cadastral map of Island Bay between Queen's Drive and The Esplanade, Selwyn, Jackson, Dover streets, the city boundary, the town belt, Lea and Rhone streets to Severn Street. Includes the proposed electric tramway route and sections for sale are marked. Named features include Baylis Proposed Wharf, Island Bay Hotel, properties of J. Reid Esq., R. Keene Esq., English Church, Public School, Presbyterian Church, Mr. Rowson's residence . Sections are numbered, some include boundary measurements. Streets are named and sites of some houses are marked. Two illustrations of Island Bay are printed on the top right and left of the map. The first shows the harbour taken from the sections for sale, while the second picture is a general view of Island Bay and includes some houses and fences. Annotations to the base map include highlighted subdivisions, some are marked 'Sold', include values in pounds sterling or boundary measurements. Additional numbered subdivisions are pencilled in between Adelaide Road and Clyde Street and include boundary measurements and sites of some houses. Some streets have been re-named. Knoll Street was crossed out, Tyne Street, was pencilled in, but Knoll Street remains and Brook Street was re-named Tyne Street. Shannon Street became Tiber Street. Milne Terrace and Cam Street have their names added, as has Moselle Street, the latter including a note referring to adjoining sections and District Plan No. 1199. The second map is a copy with ms annotations and measures 17.6 x 19.6 cm. and is mounted on the top left corner. It includes sixteen numbered sections with boundary measurements, adjoining Knoll Street, now known as Tyne Street, and Milne Terrace. The annotations are of values in pounds sterling The first manuscript map is mounted top centre, is a triangular map mounted adjacent to Severn Street. Thirteen numbered sections, with boundary measurements are shown, some marked as 'Sold' with values in pounds sterling, adjacent to Clutie Road. The second manuscript map is mounted top centre right and measures 21.1 x 26.1 cm. Includes numbered sections between The Parade and Derwent Street. One subdivision is marked Baylis Kiosk. The sea beach is marked. Names listed alongside the map refer to subdivisions 481/2/3/4 - Kingdom, Pilcher, Venables, E. C. Peers, H. Field, Barber, Butcher. Clutie Road has had its name changed since the drawing of this map. The new street name is not known Brook Street is now known as Tyne Street Base map: Plan of Island Bay, Wellington South. W. O. Beere, C.E., Authorised surveyor. Printed note on right of title of base map refers to a poll taken about a proposal for a loan to be taken out for the purpose and construction and extending the 'Electric Tramways' in the Island Bay District. Also a second loan for 'street and footpath formation' in the same district.
