Description: Map of North Island, South Island, Stewart Island of New Zealand with numerous named small islands. Rivers, settlements, cities and towns are named, as are coastal features such as bays, capes, points, heads, rocks, sounds, inlets. Principal lighthouses are marked. Lit lighthouses are also recorded. Points of shipwrecks are marked with the name and type of ship, the date of shipwreck and lives lost. Insets include lists of shipwrecks with references to places and points of shipwreck. Dates range from September 1795 - 2 March 1936. Date changed from [1935?] to [1936] based on the fact that the map includes a ship wreck from March 1936 and Halse died in 1936. 21 October 2016. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: The watercolour of the military camp at Scinde Island is copied from an artwork by Lieutenant H S Bates of the 65th Regiment in 1859, and shows "the gully running down to the shore of the inner harbour at a place called 'Onepoto' meaning a short sandy beach" (according to accompanying notes written in the 1930s, probably by the copyist) Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Description: Shows a one-storey cottage with three windows and a door along the front. There is a path leading to the door, and flower beds on either side of the door. The house was Hadfield's first home, built 1849, and located 100 yards north of Rangiatea Church, under the hill. Copy of an earlier sketch 'Rev. Octavius Hadfield's cottage at Otaki, 1849', drawn for F.C. Hadfield by H.S. Hadfield from his father's description, not directly. (A reproduction in Mulgan, A.E. The city of the Strait. Wellington, 1939, attributes the earlier version to Anne Hadfield, but calls it a copy) The earlier sketch is privately owned and was also reproduced in Lethbridge, Chris. The wounded lion: Octavius Hadfield, 1814-1904 (Christchurch, 1993), p. 154, attributed to Anne Hadfield, daughter of Octavius Hadfield. Description: A view looking down on Haulashore Island, where there are five small buildings. There are three sailing ships, two of them within the bay inshore of the island. This pencil sketch was published in Making New Zealand, Vol. 1, no. 6 p. 23. According to a note on the work's folder, it was copied from Lowther Broad's Jubilee history of Nelson... (1892), p. 17. The view in Broad is a reproduction of a William Fox watercolour 1848, which is in the Hocken Library (previously in Bett Collection). The original watercolour shows some of the buildings on Haulashore Island appearing to be more like tents, whereas McLintock has depicted them as rectangular buildings. Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Description: Shows the Hon John Edward Jenkinson Christchurch Legislative Council 119892-1914 John Edward Jenkinson was born in Dunedin and educated at State schools. He served his time to boilermaking in a Dunedin foundry and shipbuilding yard. In 1882 he joined the first labour union - the Dunedin Boilermakers, by which he was elected President (1883) and deputed to form unions in other cities. He was one of the committee of three appointed to draw up rules for the Canterbury Trades Council and for the railway servants' union. He was called to the Legislative Council in 1892 (one of a number appointed to create a government majority) and was a member till 1914. On retiring (1914) he contested the Clutha seat in the House of Representatives. Was President for some years of the Early Settlers' Association. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).

Description: Survey plan of the Auckland Albert Barracks, showing the boundaries of the barracks extending out to what later became Wellesley St, Kitchener St, Symonds St, Princes St and Alfred St. The barracks are enclosed by a stone wall (annotated note indicates part of the wall still in existence). Within the barracks is the armoury, a school, sergeant's quarters, military prison, Major Tisdall's house, the 'Dead House', large garden, the magazine, store and drill shed. Shows the Military Road, next to Government grounds, on what became Princes St. The 'Northern Club' is indicated on the corner of Waterloo Rd. Indicates building materials. Compiled by R.S.
