Description: Photographs of Henry James Barnard and his wife Helena Marian (nee Brown) with six of their eight sons. The parents are shown against a background of painted flags, with an oval cutout showing a pastel on canvas board of Mt Egmont beyond a farm landscape, upper centre. The six sons are shown in uniform, their photographs arranged around a painted decorative border. An address in Gothic script praises the Barnards for their work in providing a field ambulance for the First World War. A photograph of the ambulance is placed centrally at the base of the address. The text includes a reference to the death in World War I of two of the Barnard's sons. Signatures include that of W A Wilkinson, M P. Description: Flyer advertises a showing of a film authorised by Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, involving 5000 New Zealand soldiers, and based on Barrie Marschel's poem "The Kid from Timaru", about a soldier with the surname Kidd. Barrie Marschel recited his poem "as the films unfold". The flyer states that the film had already had seasons in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The front of the flyer shows a reproduction of a advertisement for the movie with an oval portrait of Barrie Marschel in a straw hat. The border of the flyer shows a design based on laurels. The verso reproduces the poem "The kid from Timaru". A rubber stamp shows the name of the name, place, and theatre where the screening was to take place (Waihi Academy Theatre, 25 April 1918 - ie Anzac Day) "The flame of the Yukon" was a 1917 silent film starring Dorothy Dalton and directed by Charles Miller. Description: Shows a view, after a sketch by G. Norbury in 1863, of a fortified St Bride's Church, Mauku, surrounded by a tent encampment. The camp was the right wing of the Movable Column, generally known as the Flying Column, commanded by Colonel Marmaduke Nixon, and consisting of Imperial troops and Militia. In this scene they are engaged in patrol duty. A farmer passes through the encampment leading four oxen pulling a cart. The Flying Column flag flies to the right of the church, bearing the initials 'F' and 'C'. A number of soldiers stand guard The Church of St Bride's at Mauku was one of Auckland's 'Selwyn churches' (built by Bishop Selwyn) built in 1859 and named for London's St Bride's in Fleet Street.
