Description: The leader of the New Zealand Labour Party, Helen Clark, with a cannabis cigarette in her hand, refers to her flirtation with the Green Party which advocates the legalisation of cannabis. The cartoon also puns on United States President Bill Clinton's assertion that he had oral sex but not full intercourse with Monika Lewinski and to earlier comments that he had tried cannabis but had not inhaled the smoke. Determined to succeed in his chosen profession he headed to Matuara...but not a bank in sight. Puzzled, he raced to Wyndham..."This is getting serious" he muttered. Then it crossed his mind - which is not a long journey for Ned - try Bluff...but nothing! Otautau was the last straw. Exhibited in 'The Line-Up' exhibition of 36 cartoons by 36 cartoonists curated by the New Zealand Cartoon Archive and exhibited in the National Library auditorium foyer from 5 April 2002 to mark the tenth anniversary of establishment of the New Zealand Cartoon Archive. Extended Title - You must warm your hands before ttouching our udders. For those extra full days we want bras, and the radio must be tuned to easy listening hits of the 60's and 70's. Refers to New Zealand First leaving coalition options to the vagaries of the election result. In fact Labour won the 1999 election. Description: Caricature of Colin Meads. Shows Colin Meads lying naked on a rugby field. Two rugby balls are covering his private parts, he has a studded wristband on protecting his injured wrist, is drinking champagne from a glass representing South African Airways, and has a tatoo reading, bruderband on his right shoulder. In the foreground is a voodoo doll of David Lange with pins all through it. A note on the side, refering to the doll, reads, a small gift from Transvaal. Refers to Colin Meads as co-manager of the Cavaliers tour of South Africa in 1985. It was a secretly organised rebel tour of the All Blacks calling themselves the Cavaliers. A court injunctin had effectively blocked an official All Black tour. The Lange government was also against sporting relations with South Africa. Redrawn original held at B-154-035. Copy of a cartoon published in the National Business Review, 13 June 1996. Redrawn for the New Zealand Cartoon Archive Guts and Glory exhibition 1 January 1999. Exhibited in 'Guts and Glory' an exhibition of rugby cartoons, organised by the New Zealand Cartoon Archive Trust in association with the Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand, at the National Library Gallery, 15 July - 7 November 1999, and then touring until 2001. Curated by Susan Foster. Extended Title - The loveable Colin Meads recuperating after a severe wrist-slapping from the ferocious Rugby Union. Colin's star sign is Capricorn the Springbok.
