Description: A base map of lands open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, in the Moerangi Block, Kawhia County, has been used to emphasise the boundaries of farm blocks, some of which are prominently outlined and include owners' names and applicable dates handwritten in each section. Includes streams and tracks, some named and proposed tracks. Directional notes refer to nearby settlements with mileages. Sections have details of forfeiture, some with gazeteer references. School, cemetery and stock reserves are marked. One section is labelled unselected. Includes brief descriptions of vegetation in some blocks. A water supply reserve and Moerangi Block Native Owners are marked on the boundary of the subdivisions. The base map itself is of sections in the Moerangi Block. Auckland Land District No. 1364. The Kawhia County includes Karioi S.D. (Survey District), Kawhia North S.D., Alexandra S.D. and Pirongia S.D. A schedule of these four districts includes the valuations, acreages and rent. Instructions to applicants and a caution follow with the printed name of H.M. Skeet, Commissioner of Crown Lands. Includes an abstract of the conditions of lease. A statement on the left side of the map begins with '15,255 acres' while the statement on the reverse map begins 'Lands for sale or lease to discharged soldiers'. Includes the application date of 27 April 1920 at the District lands Survey Office, Auckland. The inset map is a locality plan of the area from Great Barrier Island to Gisborne. Description: Album of photographs. The first sequence deals mainly with the Health Camp established by Dr Elizabeth Gunn in 1919, situated at the Turakina Homestead of Bennett Perry Lethbridge. Shows supervisors (mostly school nurses and trainee teachers), Dr Gunn, Mr Lethbridge, William Massey, and various activities associated with the camp. These included kit inspection, toothbrush drill and saluting the flag. Trainee teachers included Rona Benbow. Later images show views of the Otekaieke Special School (North Otago), views of school buildings and classrooms, and photographs of Len (Leonard Avann, who married Rona Benbow). There are some images of Wellington, including Rona Benbow with a group of infants at Oriental Bay, and views of the Wellington Zoo. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).
