Description: Diary (original and typed transcript) kept by Samson during the voyage from England to Napier on the "Countess of Kintore", 1875. Includes photographs of Samson & his wife, a letter of instruction to him while he captained a ship from Archangel, Russia to the island of Jersey and background notes by J L Cameron, a grandson. The diary provides a day-to-day description of the progress of the ship, and weather conditions. Samson gives details of the food served, and notes the incidence of illness and death during the voyage.
