Description: Photograph album which includes photographs of World War 1 soldiers, women, English towns and countryside, and New Zealand coastal ships.. Soldiers include a group taken in a paddock during a break on the way to Greytown, another in the grounds of a hospital or park in England, and individual soldier portraits. Women's portraits appear throughout the album. One appears more often than the others. Her name is Hepsey Egerton, an English woman whoes married name was Dalkin. Two packets of photographs sent by her to Fred Le Quesne in about the 1980s, came loose in the album. Postcards of English towns include Gnosall, Stafford, Ross, Monmouth, and Great Malvern. The New Zealand shipping is mainly pictures of ketches, scows, some other sailing ships, and views of ships at unidentified ports. Other ships are passenger liners of the 1930s period, and iron hulled sailing ships, all photomechanical prints mostly from photographs by J H Kinnear. Description: Flyer advertises a showing of a film authorised by Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, involving 5000 New Zealand soldiers, and based on Barrie Marschel's poem "The Kid from Timaru", about a soldier with the surname Kidd. Barrie Marschel recited his poem "as the films unfold". The flyer states that the film had already had seasons in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The front of the flyer shows a reproduction of a advertisement for the movie with an oval portrait of Barrie Marschel in a straw hat. The border of the flyer shows a design based on laurels. The verso reproduces the poem "The kid from Timaru". A rubber stamp shows the name of the name, place, and theatre where the screening was to take place (Waihi Academy Theatre, 25 April 1918 - ie Anzac Day) "The flame of the Yukon" was a 1917 silent film starring Dorothy Dalton and directed by Charles Miller. Description: Programme for the Port Chalmers peace celebrations on Saturday 19 July and Monday 21 July 1919. Floral tributes were to be placed on soldiers' graves and school children were to assemble at Port Chalmers District High School, march down Ajax Road and Wickliffe Terrace and line up on George Street. The Mayoress Mrs J D Stevenson was to hoist the flag on the Municipal Building. A procession was to take place, and the route is listed. All traffic was to cease for 5 minutes at 12 o'clock and bells to ring for 5 minutes. Later would follow a children's lunch, sports and picture shows, highland dance entertainment. The SS "Westmoreland" would release a rocket, and the fire brigade would proceed to the Recreation ground to attend a fireworks display. On the Monday there would be a social dance for the returned soldiers. The last page shows a list of the men of the district, killed during the war. The front cover shows a head and shoulders oval portrait of George V between the New Zealand and British flags. Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s). Description: Photograph album relating to Edith Constance Lockett of Lower Hutt, Wellington, illustrating her family life and her brother Kenneth Ewart Lockett's military service. Images taken by E C Lockett and unidentified photographer(s) ca 1915-1920s. Album inscribed 'Edith C Lockett, Lower Hutt, Feb 10th 1917' on inside front cover, and likely compiled by Edith Lockett. The album contains images of the Lockett family, particularly Edith Lockett and her siblings, Kenneth Ewart, Winifred Maud, and Edward William Lockett. The album also contains group portraits with Edith Lockett's parents, Ada Florence (nee Harrowby) and Henry George Lockett, and members of their extended family and friends, chiefly taken at the family home at 14 Stevens Grove, Lower Hutt. The album also has photographs from Kenneth Ewart Lockett's military service in World War One from November 1916 onward, and shows Kenneth and other soldiers at their camp, and includes images of army tents at an unknown location. The album also includes images of recreation activities primarily by women, such as women swimming and both men and women at the beach. Description: Photographs chiefly taken by Leslie Bowden Quartermain during his time in the New Zealand Medical Corps, World War I. Most of the men photographed are named only with Christian names, surnames or nicknames. The first sequence shows various military camps, including the training depot set up at the Awapuni Racecourse for the Medical Corps. There they were trained in specialist medical work, and also in basic infantry training and discipline. The following sequences were taken en route to Europe, with stops at Fremantle, Durban, Cape Town, and Dakar. The arrival in England gives views in Wiltshire and Oxfordshire where the men were quartered before travelling to France. Two show the village of Lewknor, the ancestral home of the Quartermain family; and several show the royal review of Australian and New Zealand troops on Salisbury Plain. Other views were taken on leave from France; and with the army of occupation in Cologne, before the voyage home on the ship Kia Ora, through the Panama Canal. The final photograph is a group portrait with Leslie Bowden Quartermain in military uniform seated in the middle of a large group, probably Quartermain family, taken in 1919.
