Description: Photograph album containing views of the South Island, including Christchurch, Diamond Lake, Otira Gorge, Bluff, Skippers Gorge, Waiau River and Hanmer. North Island views include views of Mount Tarawera after the eruption in June 1886, and views of the Pink and White Terraces before they were destroyed in the eruption. Other views show Napier, showing the first ship to berth at the new breakwater, SS Flora, on 22nd October 1895; Marine Parade in Napier; street views in Gisborne and Whangarei; Parihaka; and the Rotorua, Wairakei area with the Huka Falls, Aratiatia Rapids, and the Waimangu Geyser. They are standing in front of the Moutoa Flag which measures 8 feet in length by 5 feet 6 inches and is made of heavy quality white silk with a Union Jack oversewn on the upper left corner. Photograph taken by William Henry Thomas Partington. "...a banner known as the Moutoa Flag, was worked by the ladies of the [Wanganui] district and presented to the loyal Maoris. It was the inspiration of Mrs Logan, wife of Lt. Col. Logan, officer commanding the Imperial Forces stationed in Wanganui, that some practical expression of their gratitude from the ladies of the district be made to the loyal Whanganui chiefs to honour their victory against the Hauhaus at Moutoa Island.
