Description: The main subject areas include ships, birds (especially sea birds), trees, native forest, places in the form of pastoral landscapes, coastal views, towns and historical buildings. There are sequences of Maori and Pakeha doing crafts, mainly weaving and dying. One sequence of Maori weaving records the process from the cutting and preparation of the flax to the finished product. There are also family portraits and groups, and photographs of friends. A number of photographs were taken to build up a resource of natural textures and patterns such as driftwood, river boulders, and clouds. The subject range of the collection can be accessed through George Bull's card index. The original envelope sequence numbers relating to this can be followed in the negative registers. Old war canoe Hamaria in use on Lake Horowhenua by the Taueki family in 1926 for spearing eels; Uawhaki meeting house at Waikawa, views of carved panel and tukutuku panels inside, 1926; the site of the old native flour mill on the Waitarere Stream at Poroutawhao showing remains of machinery and millstones, 1926 (mill built 1853 or 1854 under the direction of a French priest.
