Description: Small group of men at Trentham Racecourse; church service and re-enactment of the landing of Captain Cook. Photographs taken in 1970 by Ans Westra. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. The first three frames show a small group of men watching a race standing on the steps of a grandstand at Trentham Racecourse. Frames 4 onwards show a church service and re-enactment of the landing of Captain Cook at Ship's Cove [i.e. Ship Cove] in Marlborough Sounds, during the visit of Queen Elizabeth II in March 1970. The first and 6th frames show the Queen wearing a headscarf, greeting people. She is seen seated in the front row of a large audience. She arrived with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, and Princes Anne (on her first visit to New Zealand), leaving on the 30 March.
