Description: 26 ft mullet boat Celox sailing on Waitemata Harbour. Photograph taken ca 1915 by James Hutchings Kinnear of Auckland. Celox was built in 1908 by the Logan Brothers of Auckland for W Percy. The photograph was taken after November 1914, when the permanent regisrtration number that she is carrying was assigned. At this time she was owned by Messrs George & Couldrey, hence her racing flag, the cross of St George. (Information from Robin Elliott, 25 October 2000). Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s). Description: Yachts on the beach at Balaena Bay, Wellington, taken by an unidentified photographer. The year is 1910 - an accident reported on in the NZ Yachtsman 08 Oct 1910. Left to right: White Heather, Nancy Stair, Wairere II, Mahina, Iolanthe. It shows a number of yachts without masts and men standing on and around the yachts. The boats were inshore hauled out and on cradles at Balaena Bay to be worked on. It seems as though a small earthquake or wind blew them over. Houses can be seen on the hills in the background.
