Description: Views of a trip along the Whanganui River with views of Paranui kainga (listed as Parinui in the album), showing groups of whare, groups of Maori, various activities in the kainga, canoes on the river, and many scenes of waterfalls along the river. These include Taraipokiore (or Tarei-po-Kiore), Otuitu Falls, Ohura Falls, Kakahi Falls. The "Ladder scene", copy of Denton photograph, and other views of the Whanganui River and Ohura River. There is a gap in the album, followed by a separate sequence on Napier. These images include panoramic views of Napier from various locations, church buildings (including exterior and interior views of St John's Cathedral), hotel buildings and other public buildings and memorial statues. Description: Polly Teki talks about her birth in 1908, attending Turakina Maori Girls' College in 1924 and being taken from school to live in Ranana by her father, who died in 1932 from pneumonic influenza. Speaks of her large family, doing a man's job and hard farm work. Mentions the riverboat Whakapai, its bar and items sold on board, the passengers. Refers to land being 'dry' - alcohol free. Talks of deckhands, Temo Ponga, Captains Anderson and Robinson, the riverboat accidents when Bob Gray and Captain Anderson died. Describes Pipiriki House, its dinners, concerts and why it burnt down. Mentions Ranana Post Office, the telephone exchange and mail transported by riverboat. Mentions the catholic nuns' work. Topics discussed include the opening of the road and the cessation of the boat service with some unemployment as a result. The images follow the route of Salmon and his companions' travels tramping and travelling from Franz Josepf Glacier to various locations in the North Island. Photographs taken by Salmon. - The photographs show aerial images of the South Island including Franz Josef Glacier and snowfields, Fox Glacier and nearby mountains and bush, and a series of images of Bert Salmon and Mary Hansen on the ice at Fox Glacier. Also includes views of Fox River, the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, Buller Gorge, a suspension bridge over the Buller River, and farmland near Nelson. - Photographs of the North Island show Chateau Tongariro and Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, views of Mount Ngauruhoe, including a copy of a photograph of the eruption of Ngauruhoe on 9 December 1934, and group portraits of Irene Booth, Mary Hansen, Eric Keehn, and Reg Booth playing in the snow on Mount Ruapehu. - Other images show views of the Waikato River at Huka Falls, the Aratiatia Rapids, and geothermal activity around Taupo and Rotorua.
