Description: Collection comprises photographs relating to the Stevens and Shelton families of Marton and Palmerston North. Taken by a range of photographers between circa 1860 and 1994. Images chiefly relate to Norman Leslie Shelton and his wife Dorothy Mamie (nee Stevens), and Dorothy's siblings Flora Alexandra (Lexie) Stevens and Edward Eric Stevens. Includes 19th century portraits of Shelton and Stevens family members. Also includes portraits of their relatives of the McNaughton and McKinnon families of Southland. Negatives are all unidentified but show scenes and people, in and around houses and gardens, [in Whanganui?]. Includes living room interiors, gardens, [Cape Egmont?] lighthouse, [school?] girls, and a group with a clergyman [at a christening?]. Comprises 35 b/w images taken circa 1960s, 8 colour images taken circa 1960s, and 7 b/w taken in the 1940s. Inscriptions on the reverse of many photographs, which identify people, were written by various family members; including Lindsay Shelton, Flora Alexa Stevens, and Dorothy Shelton.
