Among the variety of material are notes on Hau, a West Coast ancestor and his journey to Paekakariki; traditional history of early ancestor Tutahanga and fighting between Ngati Maru and Ngapuhi; whakapapa from Karepa Te Uira to Tamarere Ahu II; queries and notes about Ngati Ira and early Wellington; brief notes and whakapapa of Ngati Maru; a waiata from Whanake; many items relating to Wellington Maori place names, iwi, chiefs and history and other fragments of North Island Maori history. Description: Contains a facsimile copy of a hand written manuscript by Te Uremutu Hakaraia Kiharoa at the dictation of aged chiefs of the Ngati Raukawa, Otaki district. Contains numerous waiata later published by Sir George Grey in "Nga Moteatea me nga Hakirara o nga Maori" including waiata for Te Heuheu Mananui, Papaka Te Naeroa all of Ngati Tuwharetoa; Werawera of Ngati Toa; one waiata "whakawai moko"; numerous waiata whakaoriori tamaiti. One waiata [p.95] which contains referecnes to Tuhoe, Ngati Kahungunu and the Wairarapa, and mentions the mere pounamu "Heketua" which originally travelled through these tribes before being acquired by Te Rauparaha and Te Rangihaeata. Description: Three photographic prints of images taken in Wellington by photographer James Bragge between circa 1860 and circa 1902. A wide view overlooking Thorndon, Wellington City, taken from The Terrace circa 1870. It shows the city buildings, including St Mary's Cathedral, Government House, Old St Pauls's Church, domestic houses, and early reclaimation work on the harbour's edge. On extreme lower right of frame, two women walking on a path are visible. A view taken of four men posing on Swinburne's Wharf, Wellington. Visible in the background are wooden buildings on the shoreline and some moored sailing vessels at the wharves. Print is captioned "Swinbourne Wharf Willis St". A view of colonial wooden buildings lining Lambton Quay, with a horse and cart on the Quay beside the shoreline. In the foreground is a pile of planks; and to left of frame is a large wooden building. Print is captioned "Lambton Quay showing back of the Central Club". Also includes a card matt with an embossed photographers stamp pasted on to it reading "James Bragge Portrait & Landscape Photographer Wellington N Z". One card mount was retained as it has the photographer's stamp attached. The other mounts were discarded as they were not of an archival housing standard.

Description: The first plan (MapColl-832.45gmbd/1876/Acc.29312) shows a surveyed section of Rimutaka Road at Abbots Creek, from the beginning of the new road (numbered 496), over the Abbots Creek bridge and southwest to the second bridge at the small creek where the road forks. A small section of the old road is shown. The second plan (MapColl-832.45gmbd/1876/Acc.29312) shows a more detailed version of the survey, from the beginning of the new road, past the Abbots Creek and bridge. States that contents of road 1 rood 2.6 perches; includes letters JVTLES. Both maps have note: 'District Engineers Office Masterton 25.8.[18]76'. Acc.29311 has ink annotation '497' next to the path of the old road. Includes two letters, one to the Principal Secretarys Office (MapColl-832.45gmbd/1876/Acc.29314) requesting a conveyance for land and a second (MapColl-832.45bmbd/1876/Acc.29313) from the Engineer to the Wellington Superintendant regarding purchase of land for the new road from Josiah Viles, butcher, Featherston for £60. Description: A comprehensive narrative by Atanatiu Te Kairangi about the migration of Ngati Toa to Kapiti and their subsequent raids into the South Island during the late 1820s and 1830s. Although unsigned this account later appears in the Maori newspaper Te Pipiwharauroa, No. 176, 1913, verbatim. Williams was the Editor for the newspaper at the time. Also includes a second, different, account of the story given in the first person; probably also by Atanatiu.
