Description: The project was recorded to provide some of the history behind the Kahungunu settlement of the Pou-a-Kani (Pouakani) area and the development of the Mangakino township. The project aimed to collect the experiences of those from Ngati Moe who were relocated by the government from the Wairarapa to the Pouakani block in the Waikato as compensation for the loss of the Wairarapa lakes. He later trained as a surveyor and qualified as a civil engineer, working on roading projects for the Ministry of Works. Description: Cadastral map from the Manakino Township at the Waikato River, southwards to the airstrip near Ropiha Road, depicting the Pouakani Block of the Wairarapa Maori. Shows numbered land blocks with acreage and owner's name, roads and rivers and streams (Waikato and Waipapa Rivers, Waiteti and Mangakino Stream) as well as the Mangakino township. Land owners include S Te Whaiti, W Te Miha, H Te Whaiti, B Parker, Dillon, F Palmer, B Karaitiana, R Parker, B Parker, O Halberg, G Ahipener, A Parker, H Taplin, M Mason, Te Heemi, T Rewi, T Haeata, H Carter, E Paki, A McMeekin, A Te Maari, T Matenga, D Mackey, H Maranui, T Matthews, L Pederson, P Namona, D Te Whaiti, Mitchell, T Te Maari, P Bristowe, N Greenland.
