Description: Album of newspaper and magazine cuttings, photographs, and prints of paintings in colour and black & white, mostly of Maori subjects, with some images of geographically interesting sites in New Zealand, including Mount Tongariro, Lake Waikaremoana, and the Waimangu Crater. The Maori material includes prints of paintings by Goldie, and prints of paintings of Maori by T. Ryan, some of which are copies of works by Goldie. There is a print of a painting by T. Ryan, showing Tomika Te Mutu, painting done from an original sketch by Horatio Gordon Robley. There are many publicity photographs of Maori, showing clothing, particularly cloaks, and showing various activities in Maori pa, including weaving, firelighting, poi dances, and waka poi. Also includes images of Maori waka on the Waikato River; 2 pages of Maori rock carvings, found in a cave shelter on the Kaingaroa Plains in 1926, and one on Maori god-sticks (Pou whakapakoko).

Description: Album of views compiled by Alexander Fisher, MD RN, during his service as a surgeon aboard HMS Endymion. The album comprises: Photographs collected during the cruise of the Flying Squadron, under the command of Rear Admiral G T Phipps Hornby, during 1869-1870, which carried HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. Included are views of Plymouth, Portsea, Madeira, Brazil (Bahia and Rio de Janiero), South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Japan, British Columbia, Hawaii and Chile. Description: Album compiled circa 1863-5, by Spencer P T Nicholl of the 43rd Oxfordshire Light Infantry. Some photographs taken by John Kinder. Photographs include images relating to military life, including the Oakura Redoubt, the Kaitake Redoubt, officers of the 68th regiment, military camps in Taranaki, and the Militia Hospital in New Plymouth. Pages 15-18 have the pencilled caption `Lake Taupo', but in fact are photographs of the volcanic area around Lake Rotomahana, and were taken by John Kinder in 1865. They include a sulphur volcano (whakataratara), the Whatapoho geyser, Otukapuarangi (Pink Terraces), and the Tarata or principal boiling springs. Pages 19-32 contain portraits of Maori men and women, some of which have pencilled captions. Inscriptions: Album page - `Spencer p.T. Nicholl (subsequently Lieut.
