There is no information about the McFadgeon [McFadgen] family having a link with "Bureta Farm" in an article on the internet: http://tauranga.kete.net.nz/tauranga_local_history/topics/show/1263-bureta. An earlier photograph taken by Robert Percy Moore (Pan-2207) has Bureta Farm crossed out and Miss S McFadgen named, but no name for the property. It appears Moore might have given the two images the incorrect names which he then corrected. Description: A long war canoe or waka taua, with many seated rowers, three men standing at prow, stern and in the centre. Headlands and hills are behind the canoe, with a fort visible on the headland on the left. Robley created several versions of this view, both as ink and wash drawings, and as finished watercolours. According to the text accompanying a watercolour version sold at Sotheby's, London, 15 February 1990, lot 121, the view represents the winning canoe in a race organised at Tauranga, Christmas 1864 (or 1865), by Captain Gilbert Mair, in honour of Robley. The canoe is landing on the Tauranga waterfront, at The Strand, opposite Spring Street. The redoubt visible along the crest of the foreland in the left background is Monmouth Redoubt. Description: The report with diagrams and photographs was prepared when the wreckage of an unknown ship was discovered during the excavation of a marina at Tauranga in 1981. The wreck was examined, its identity established and recommendations made for its future. The report was prepared for New Zealand Historic Places Trust and the Bay of Plenty Harbour Board The Martha, a whaling barque, was built in Massachusetts in 1805.
