Description: Album begins with Wellington Hospital in about 1927/28 and shows the new buildings which opened in 1928, the nurses home and Toxwood's hospital buildings of 1880. There are many photographs of nurses, some staged in operating theatres with doctors and nurses arround the patient, one administering chloroform onto a fabric pad over the patients face. The rest of the photographs in the album relate to Doris Pedersen's work in maternity hospitals and hospitals specialising in the care of very young children. These include Alexandra Children's Hospital, Karitane Hospital, a hospital in a large late victorian house with a big garden, and Dr Doris and William Gordon's Marire Private Hospital in Stratford.. Description: Album recording a motoring and camping holiday through the South Island of New Zealand. This took in the New Zealand South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and included the West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury. The central part of the album has images of Khandallah, Wellington, and the family home in that suburb. Family photographs include Doug on his Norton Motorcycle, and Jack and Neville similarly posed on a Douglas Motorcycle. Rene and Frank stand at the net holding tennis rackets, and mother has several images with young Joyce. The last part of the album recordes something of a holiday to Auckland where the family camped at Brown's Bay and took a trip to Kawau Island. A group shot on Mt Messanger on the way back and some views of Pukekura Park New Plymouth complete the album Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).

War memorial at Normanby

Description: Photo of a war memorial at the Waihi Cemetery at Normanby showing names of men belonging to the colonial forces who died in engagements during 1868. Photographed in 1924 by Robert E Wells. Inscriptions: Verso - top centre - Photos of Historical Interest; Verso - centre - Print 1. The memorial created to those who fell during three engagements in the Maori War. This memorial is to be seen at the little-known Waihi Cemetery at Normanby, South Taranaki. The cemetery is laid out on the side of a hill, known as the "Waihi Redoubt". Near the summit, the hill is very strongly entrenched, the trenches, 10 to 12 ft deep, being in a perfect state of preservation. Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).
