Description: Three-part image, in three arched lights, showing the eagle, symbol of Saint John, ocvering all three lights. Symbols of the sun, stars and moon suggest light. In the right light, the chalice with a snake in it, represents John the Apostle, said to have been unharmed by a poisoned cup. Description: Album of photographs taken in the Otago and Southland Regions, by unidentified photographers. All the locations are well identified. Some of the images are related to railways, including railway tunnels (e.g. The Caversham Tunnel when under construction circa 1909), and the Hunts Road Tunnel; the Clutha Railway Bridge; the Wingatui Signal Box; the Balclutha Railway Station, railway yards, and sales-yards; railway barns; D-class engine (New Zealand Railways steam-engine No. 355); the Owaka Express; and bush tramway tracks, one sawmill typical of small mills in the Catlins area. Many of the images are taken with an emphasis on atmosphere, including sunsets, stormy days on the coast near Dunedin, evening at Ocean Beach, storm clouds at Lawyer's Head, and "By beach and sand-hill". Photographs include views of Mount Cook Boys' School staff at a picnic, children from the school on an outing to the coast where they were picnicking and swimming, and teachers in fancy dress. A number of images show Trafalgar Day celebrations, with a parade through the streets of Wellington, and activities at Newtown Park. Two ships shown are HMS Powerful in Wellington Harbour, and La Bella after being washed ashore at Ohiro Bay, 15th October 1904. Description: Design drawing for an advertisement for the Farmers' Trading Company shows an illustration of the Auckland six-storey building on a street corner. At the left a long navy-blue articulated bus with "Farmers Trading Co" along its side twice, is parked beside the building. The background sky is orange-gold with radiating sun rays. There is a blank space at the right where text was to go in the published version. Dated from the time of appearance of a slightly altered version in Brett's Christmas number, 1 December 1930. It is not verified that the Farmers free bus service used an articulated bus at this time. There are no other known instances of an articulated bus in New Zealand at the time. Description: Scene by C D Barraud reproduced on a Christmas card sent out by the law firm Bell Gully Buddle Weir in 1970s. Shows the view from the hills at the southern end of the city, looking northward along the longer axis of the harbour, and was taken towards the close of a fine autumn day when the light of the setting sun was reflected on the distant masses of the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges. The lower slopes of Brooklyn Hill are in the foreground, with the houses of Te Aro Flat in the middle ground, part of Mt Victoria on the right, ships in the harbour, Somes Island and Petone with the Tararua Ranges beyond in the distance.
