Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides was probably taken earlier than those on some of the preceding sheets (information from his diary). This sheet contains images taken in the Wairarapa, in Napier and Gisborne. Included are a view of Burnside Church near Pirinoa; several images of the road into, and views of the rock formations known as the Pinnacles (Putangiroa Pinnacles), including a close-up of shell fossils; Massey College at Palmerston North; street scene with the Majestic Hotel and the railway line passing through Palmerston North; the Domain Gardens, and Stortford Lodge Hotel at Hastings; the Hawke Bay province from Te Mata Peak; Cape Kidnappers and the gannet colony; Napier beach looking north; the Napier Sound Shell; flower beds as a border in Napier; and Gisborne from the hill. Slides on this sheet are numbered 554-578, with gaps for 556, 559-560, 567 and 577. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 556, 559-560, 567, 577). These showed the river valley on the way to the Pinnacles; Pinnacle Valley "towers" and "castles"; railway line through Palmerston North; Gisborne area showing the beach looking south. They were removed to be included in his representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. The lecture series are filed in later sequences. Description: A pamphlet showing the timetable of a train leaving Wellington at 12.10 am on 14th September, to reach Hastings at 7.33 am. The homeward journey left Hastings at 7 pm, arriving back in Wellington at 1.55 am. Pillows were available for hire, luggage could be stored free at the Railway Station, and there would be refreshments available at Palmerston North and Hastings. Other attractions of Hastings included a Blossom Festival dance, fencing and wrestling contests, the musical "Naughty Marietta", a fair, drum majorettes, and roller skating hockey championships. The train fare for adults was 5 shillings. The front cover shows the Hastings clock tower, and a sprig of blossom. Quantity: 1 pamphlet. Description: Album compiled by Patrick Kelliher. Chiefly photographs relating to the construction of the power station at Tuai in the 1930s taken by Kelliher, a keen amateur photographer who worked in the powerhouse. Includes images of pack horses, heavy machinery and trucks, the construction of tunnels, spillway, a bridge, pipes, the power house and the huts in which workers lived. Also includes five images taken after the Kopuawhara flash flood of 19 February 1938 (in which 21 people were drowned) and a newspaper cutting from a year after the flood. Also a set of 14 images taken at Wairoa railway station at the the opening ceremony of the 97 mile Napier-Wairoa-Waikokopu portion of the Napier-Gisborne railway, also taken by Kelliher. Images include steam and diesel engines, visiting dignitaries and Maori performers. Also one photograph of Kelliher on a horse drawn cart in Masterton, Wairarapa, taken circa 1980s and a 1990 certificate to Kelliher from the Lions Club of Wainuiomata.
