Description: Leader of the Labour Party Phil Goff slips on a banana skin; in the background is the Beehive, and Labour's Chief Whip Darren Hughes walks away looking somewhat dejected. Context - Chief Labour Party whip Darren Hughes has been forced to resign after an 18 year old student laid a sex complaint with police. Police are still investigating. The mishandling of the affair by Phil Goff is yet another blow for the Labour Party as the November election approaches. His wife offers him a cup of tea and assumes the report is about Christchurch but it is not, it is about 'Phil Goff & Labour' Context - Christchurch continues to have aftershocks following the February 22 earthquake and the Labour Party is suffering one bodyblow after another - the last being the Darren Hughes affair. Description: PM Sid Holland and leader of the Labour opposition Walter Nash dressed in togs prepare to take to the water which represents the 'election'. Sid Holland has an outboard motor attached to his back to which is tied a label reading 'waterfront policy'; he confidently starts the motor preparing to launch into the snap election of 1951. Walter Nash has a brick labelled 'waterfront politics' tied around his neck and he scratches his head indecisively. The 1951 waterfront confrontation which was essentially crushed by the government and over which Labour was criticised for fence-sitting and of Communist sympathies during the ellection campaign resulted in an increased majority to 20 seats for National. Description: Text purports to give the programme for a concert starring Bowen and Beswick. However, it is a satirical political poster commenting on two of the contestants for the Kaiapoi seat in the 1875 general election, Charles Bowen and Joseph Beswick. The election coincided with the 25th jubilee of the Canterbury Province. Bowen won, but not by as large a margin as the poster predicted. "Songs" featured in the concert include "Charlie is my darling", "How many legs has a sheep", "Not for Joseph", "Kaiapoi was glad when they departed". On 20 March 2012 New Zealand Herald revealed Nick Smith, former ACC Minister, sent correspondence to ACC about Pullar, a friend, without declaring a conflict of interest.
