Images fall into three broad groups: - Unidentified portraits (including the two taken circa 1900s) - Staff and factory floor images taken at suit manufacturer J A Wilkinson & Son Ltd, possibly in Wellington circa 1940s - Scenes in Wellington, and scenes and buildings in Auckland and Wellington Specific items show a table of wedding gifts, the ship 'TSS Wahine' with a damaged bow at Pipitea Wharf, Wellington, in June 1936, a group outside a meeting house circa 1920s, an unidentified building decorated with ships wheel motifs, a significant ceremony outside an unidentified building under construction circa 1920s, Auckland University clock tower circa 1920s, Auckland Railway Station, and Oriental Bay marina, Wellington. Description: Album of photographs taken in the Otago and Wellington Regions, by an unidentified photographer. The South Island images include Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu, Arrowtown, Paradise, Diamond Lake, Balclutha, the Clutha and Catlins Rivers, and scenes in Dunedin including the Botanical Gardens. A large number show the Shotover River and details relating to gold mining, including a miner's stone whare on the bank of the river and two views showing the waters of the Shotover escaping from a tunnel driven for mining purposes to allow the river to be diverted from its natural course. The North Island views are all in the Wellington region, particularly views of the harbour with its various shipping activities, with many ships named. The latter part of the album consists of about 13-17 small photographs attached to each of 6 pages, many of family and friends, identified only by Christian name. The house at No. 3 Aorangi Terrace is shown (lived in by Ernest Somerville, importer, in 1905-1906; and by George Jefferson Belt, tally clerk, in 1909), and a house in Hawkestone Street. Description: Papers of the Pitt-Porutu family, mainly comprising correspondence, plans, land documents, deeds, agreements, financial records and various receipts. These papers mainly relate to the business interests of Henare Pitt Porutu, his son, Arthur Pitt, and their families. Source of title - Supplied by Library The Porutu family are a notable family in the history of land settlement in Wellington, and espesically the Pipitea pa site. Te Rira Porutu of Te Matehou was a principal Te Ati Awa leader at Pipitea pa and a signatory to the Treaty of Waitangi. His wife, Te Awa, was closely related to the Taranaki prophet Te Whiti-o-Rongomai. Henare Apiti Porutu, also known as Henry Pitt, a brother of Ihaia Porutu and cousin of Te Whiti o Rongomai. Involved in Maori land claims in the Hutt Valley, Wellington, from mid 1850s to early 1900s. His first wife Ann Smith emigrated to New Zealand in 1851. Quantity: 10 folder(s). 0.20 Linear Metres.
