Description: Includes programme of 16 pages, listing events: New Zealand Open Outboard Motor Boat Championship, Inboard Race for Black and White Challenge Cup, Outboard Motor Handicap, NZ Open Speedboat Championship for the Masport Cup, Handicap race for Inboards capable of speeds up to 35 m.p.h., Outboard motor handicap, Grand Farewell Handicap open to all Inboards over 30 m.p.h. There is also a chart of the course and a list of rules. The yellow ribbon accompanying the programme shows the words "Centennial Masport Cup Regatta, Picton, 1940" The Picton Speed-Boat Championship in January 1940 saw the Masport Cup won for the fifth successive year by the boat ‘Pelorus Jack’, which covered the 21-mile course in 26min 46seconds. The papers reported that “the weather was far from ideal, rain and a gusty wind producing a jobble which resulted in a postponement of the big race till early evening”. Exhibited in ‘Humble: the life of 100 small objects’, exhibition curated by Barbara Lyon, in the Turnbull Gallery, National Library of New Zealand, 27 August - 17 November 2017. Photographed by Whites Aviation in about 1966. The ship `Aranui' and the date that it came into service identified by a library client, October 2010. The date on the Whites Aviation negative and file print is May 1951. A client has pointed out that this cannot be correct as the ship in the harbour is the inter island ferry `Aranui' which did not come into service until 1966. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s). A path at far left leads away over the hill, presumably towards the settlement. In the middle distance is a group of buildings beside a wharf, beside which a small ship is anchored. Artist's notes at lower left: 'Roof of cottage blue zinc with rusty iron. Description: View of the New Zealand Railways rail ferry Aramoana at the Picton terminus, Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand. Photographed by an unknown photographer for New Zealand Railways publicity in about 1969. Ordered in 1959 by the New Zealand Government at the cost of NZ$4,000,000 from William Denny & Brothers Ltd, Dumbarton, Scotland. Launched on the 24th of November 1961. Began her New Zealand service on the Wellington to Picton run on the 13th of August 1962. Ran this service until 1983. In 1984 was sold to the Najd Trading & Construction Company, Saudi Arabia and renamed Captain Nicolas V. In 1986 was renamed Najd II. In 1994 she left Ajman, United Arab Emirates, to be brocken up in Gujarat, India. (Information - Marcus Castell for the New Zealand Marintime Record). Description: Shows a broad view of the harbour and foreshore at Picton from the eastern side, with yachts, launches, and many canoes, several in a race at the right of the picture. One of the launches is packed with spectators. There is a steamship tied up at the wharf at the right, and many spectators standing on the wharf. There are buildings on the waterfront, and houses further back to the left, one a distinctive two-storeyed house with verandahs and balconies and a turret. Quantity: 1 oil(s).
