M class steam locomotive No 90, 2-4-4T type, at Napier

Description: "M" 90; an M class steam locomotive, type 0-6-0T. This image is a glass copy negative made by Albert Percy Godber from his own original print in an album. Godber's son William Albert Godber is standing on the far right. There is another inscription above this image which relates to another photograph in the Godber album. Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - centre right - W.A.G. Napier. 1922 "M" 90 was originally built as 0-6-0T type by Hunslet (maker's no 141/75), went into service in December 1875. It was modified to the 2-4-4T type in 1890 at the Addington Workshops, and was written off in October 1928. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974.) See also 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.
