Description: Topographic map of the area from Mataroa, Hokio, Kaitapa, Kahikawaka, Cedar Ranges to Makokomiko Creek, bordered by the Rangitikei River. Motukawa No.2 and Awarua No.2 are prominently written and refer to the districts. Some of the terrain is described. Settlements, rivers, creeks, streams are named. Waterholes, horse tracks, the best line for a road, woolsheds, sheepyards, a racecourse and the site of an iron house are marked. Includes Kirimara Old Pa. Names include: Mitchell. Description: A base topographic map of Kapiti Island shows four subdivisions, marked as A to D without an explanation. Includes numerous Maori placenames and named streams. Pa sites and former Maori settlements are marked, as are whaling stations and a cavern, formerly a burial ground. Rocks are named and notes state whether or not they are covered at high water. Main access tracks, established trapline tracks, camps and homesteads, tent camps established and proposed, appear to have been added to the base map and are referred to in a key. Tokomapuna Island, or Evans Island, includes the site of the main whaling station Motungarara Island, or Hiko's Island, includes the site of Lewis's whaling station Tahoramaurea Island, or Rauparaha's island, includes the site of Mayhew's store and whaling station Quantity: 1 map(s). Description: Military map of the country surrounding Runanga, depicting Armed Constabulary Stations along the Napier - Taupo Road, Maori tracks / trails ('Native tracks'), Maori pa or Kainga ('Native settlements'), European homesteads, hills, mountains, rivers and streams, all of which are named. Armed Constabulary stations are positioned in Runanga, Opepe and Tarawera. Maori walking tracks include the Ripia walking track from Taupo to Napier, and tracks from Tokanu to Runanga, Lake Taupo to Te Whaiti, Rangitikei River to Tarawera, and from the Whirinaki River to Ahikereru, Ruatahuna, and Maungapohatu.
