Description: Standing portrait of Horonuku Te Heuheu Tukino IV. He has two huia feathers in his hair, wears two kiwi feather cloaks and carries a patu in his right hand. A redrawing of a photograph taken at Tokaanu, Lake Taupo, by the Burton Brothers, between 1868 and 1888 A copy by John Hugh Boscawen of a photograph. Description: Woodridge sailed to New Zealand in Oct 1902 and in his journal describes his voyage on the ss `Papanui' visiting the Spain, Tenerife, the Cape of Good Hope and Tasmania en route, his travels through New Zealand, his departure and voyage back to England on the `Rimutaka' via Cape Horn, Uruguay. He writes of his daily activities, the people he met, the various sights, social life and customs of the places visited and he has included in the volume stamps from the various ports they visited, photographs, pen drawings, dried plants, maps and a huia feather. His itinerary is summarised at the end of the book which also includes a brief address list of persons met and rough abstract of expenses. Woodridge visited Wellington, Napier, Rotorua, Auckland, Helensville, Dargaville, Kaihu, Mangawhare, Maropui, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Pipiriki, Palmerston North, Pohangina, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, Paradise, Skippers, Wanaka, Alexandra, Lawrence, Christchurch, Springfield, Otira, Reefton, Nelson and Picton A telegram and two greetings cards were also with the journal Source of title - Supplied Quantity: 1 volume(s) (111 pages). 1 folder(s). 0.03 Linear Metres. Description: View from a hill near the water's edge, looking down towards pohutukawa, with a small group of Maori dwellings at the water's edge, alongside a small stream. Across the Manukau harbour can be seen the Huia area. The settlement at Titipai was about one mile west of the kainga of Awhitu, which in turn was about two miles west of James Hamlin's Church Missionary Station at Orua, at Manukau Entrance, the southern end of Manukau Heads Exhibited at 'The world was all before me; journals and watercolours of Edward Ashworth from the collections of Alexander Turnbull Library', Curator was Jill Trevelyan. The exhibition title is taken from Ashworth's journal where he misquotes from John Milton's poem "Paradise Lost": "The world was all before me / where to choose my place of rest". At the National Library Gallery, 27 April - 29 July 2001. Other Titles - Manakau Harbour Christmas Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - title in ink, with Xmas 1843 in pencil upper right sky area.
