Description: Photographs taken by Maurice Henry Hayward while on a work relief scheme on the Chatham Islands building a new wharf at Waitangi. Included are views of Waitangi and its principle buildings, the Post Office, the hotels and the radio station. Also depicted is race day, bullock teams, horses hauling wool bales on sledges, sheep waiting at Waitangi Wharf, human bones, Tommy Solomon's funeral, a shipwreck, the countryside, and coastal views. Throughout the album are images of the old wharf at Waitangi, and the new one under construction and finally completed. There is a record of a tramping and hunting trip made by three or four men, one of whom was Hayward, and two interior views of the living quarters for the relief workers. Some photographs show the men riding horses, and dressed as cowboys or tough looking seamen. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).

Description: A collection of postcards and printed views (possibly from a magazine) of New Zealand scenes primarily of towns and cities rather than scenic views. They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Also included are five original photographs which have been captioned with the family connections: a soldier in uniform, possibly named Ralph Ferguson; Uncle Henry Babe's wedding photograph; cousin Violet Bradford in America; Albert and Elizabeth (Eliza) Babe (brother and sister) and four others; Thomas and Fanny Babe (grandpa and grandma) with Eliza, Harold, Albert, Olivia, Queenie and Gladys. They include photographs of earthquake damage to shops in Hastings; the flooding of the Ngaruroro River; excavation of the site of the new swimming pool in Havelock North; a man and a boy sheltering from the rain outside a barbers shop; the Soldiers Memorial Hospital; Taradale Post and Telegraph Office with the library across the street; two men working on a steam locomotive; neon sign on Queen's Wharf, Auckland; wedding photograph of a couple named Harper and Ward (the groom was a minister); five men next to a crashed aeroplane on a snowy hillside; a Windsor chair made from New Zealand birch; schoolgirls leaving Hastings High School; a view across Hastings, possibly from the Clock Tower, over Railway Road and towards St Andrew's Church; two of the Cosy Buildings (possibly previously the Douglas Buildings), one when the picture theatre had the electric sign "Cosy" hanging from it and was showing the film Nurse Marjorie and the other without the sign and with the ground floor closed up; and the new Post and Telegraph Office built to replace the old one after the earthquake.
