Description: Notebook gives brief details of early Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay identities, including whalers, traders, farmers, local Maori people and tribes, and important events in the area, including inter-tribal wars. Most notes relate to the activities, acquaintances and interests of J W Harris Accompanying material - Accompanied by Typed transcript of notebook with additions (10 leaves), thought to have been made by J A Mackay, undated; notes on Capt J W Harris (1 leaf ms), made by Francis Harris, grandson of J W Harris and son of E F Harris, undated; and copy of newspaper article from Gisborne Times Christmas Supplement, 24 Dec 1920, on Capt Harris, possibly by J A Mackay Source of title - Supplied Harris was son of Capt John Williams Harris, an early whaler and trader in the Poverty Bay area, who had arrived from Sydney in 1831.
