Description: Drawn on a published map of Mayor Island to Poverty Bay with an extended portion of another map glued to include the area from Mayor Island to the Mercury Islands. The annotations depict extended river and partially smooth water limits at various points around the coastline from the Mercury Islands to Poverty Bay. The limit for Gisborne fishing boats extends from Cape Runaway to Poverty Bay. A reference key is included which states that river and smooth water limits are coloured blue and one area is prominently named Te Kaha river limits. Extended and partially smooth water limits are coloured red and three areas are prominently named Tauranga; Whakatane, Ohiwa and Opotiki; Te Kaha extended river limits. The Tauranga extension for fine weather only, at the discretion of the Inspector of Fisheries, is coloured green. 'Opotiki extreme limits' covers the approximate area between White Island and Whale Island. An additional area has been shaded green for the extended river and partial limit from Whangamata and Tauranga to Mayor Island, with details written in biro added at a later date. Also marked in biro are three anchorages for launches, one at Waihau Bay. 'George Siroper 9/1/25' is handwritten adjacent to reference key, at centre top of map. Signature hard to decipher. One view is of the house owned by Benjamin Mountfort in Hereford Street, Christchurch. There is no mention of a C H Morris in Wise's post Office Directory, but William Russell Morris is listed as living at 9 Roscoe Terrace, wadestown, and as being the secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department. Description: Photographs of the Royal visit in 1927 of the Duke and Duchess of York, taken by an unidentified photographer. None of the photographs have captions. Images include the royal entourage driving or travelling by train through New Zealand countryside in the South Island and the North Island; various ceremonies, welcoming crowds, a large group of nurses lining the steps up to a hospital, various dignitaries, and inspection of troops and police. Two photographs show the Royal camp at Tokaanu, and one shows rows of people seated at tables in the open air. A number of more personal images show the Duke and Duchess, the Duke outside smoking a pipe, the Duke at a racecourse with a trotting horse and sulky, and the Duke and Duchess fishing near Turangi. Description: Engraving from the official account of Cook's first voyage, based on a drawing of Te Puta o te Paretauhinau Pa at Mercury Bay, Coromandel Peninsula (not Tolaga Bay as claimed in the title). The drawing of the pa is by Herman Diedrich Sporing, Sir Joseph Banks' clerk; the canoe is copied from a drawing by Sydney Parkinson, the official artist aboard the Endeavour. The scene shows a boat from the Endeavour being rowed in the left foreground; a small canoe with five Maori engaged in fishing in the right foreground; an arched rock in the water behind the boats with a pa on top of it; two canoes pulled up on the bank to the right behind the arched rock and dense bush in the background. Exhibitied in 'Drawn From Nature: Europeans Record New Zealand, 1770-1860' exhibition at the National Library Gallery, 31 March to 28 May 1989. Description: Charles Hill-Trevor's personal album of the time he spent as personal secretary to Lord Ranfurly, Governor of New Zealand. It records the New Zealand contingents sent to the South African war and public events, personalities and patriotic entertainments associated with that enterprise. Visits to Government houses in Australia record other governors, officials and official residences. On one occasion in Melbourne a New Zealand versus Australia polo match was played. Hill-Trevor shows an interest in Māori, wildlife conservation (including the bird sanctuary on Resolution Island), and the sports of fishing, polo and horsemanship. There are photographs of members of the Ranfurly family and their principal servants as well as the Governor engaged in official functions such as opening the Kaiapoi council offices and laying the foundation stone of the Veterans Home, Mt Roskill, Auckland in 1903.
