Description: The papers consist of: Application form and supporting land deeds submitted by R M & J P Harrison; history of the family, farm ownership and improvements; cadastral and topographical maps; photographs of the farm and family. Original owner was William Edmund James Bullock who received a Crown Grant in 1883 of 97 acres (now Lot 1 DP 18732 Ngaere Survey District). The land has passed down through the female line of the family to the present owner Jackie Harrison and her husband Rod who purchased the dairy farm in Skeet Road, Matapu in 2003. Description: A view down a valley surrounded by hills. The land in foreground is dotted with harakeke plants that are seeding. The view appears to be looking towards a pass between low mountain ranges, with a high mountain on right of the view. Location is unidentified. The artist's initials and a date (apears to be 1866) are written lower right hand corner of the image. One of two drawings by Huddleston of the general valley area, the other being A-468-013, which also shows a farmhouse and fencing in place. Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - FFCH / April 19 / 186[6?] [artist's initials in ink] Atist and surveyor Francis Fortescue Croft Huddleston was the brother of Eugenie Eugenie Elizabeth Croft Hayter, nee Huddleston, 1854-1936, who married Captain Francis Hayter in 1873. Hayter purchased Rollesby run (formerly Burkes Pass Station) in 1882. Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Description: A view looking down to a valley floor, showing a wide sweep of flat land, a farmhouse and outbuilding. The fences and planting of a bushline appear to be quite new. Annotation in an unidentified hand on verso in pencil is faint and partially illegible. One of two drawings by Huddleston of the general valley area, the other being A-468-014. Date ascribed by archivist based on similarity to drawing at A-468-014. Description: Shows the rapids leaving the lake, at Frankton, the outlet of the Kawerau River. There is a three-storey mill building with a waterwheel attached on the water's edge at the right. In the left background, on the other side of the rapids is a group of farm buildings, belonging to the farm owned by W G Rees between 1862 and 1867. The mill at right has been identified as Robertson and Hallenstein's Brunswick mill (see F G W Miller's "Golden days of Lake Country" (Christchurch, 1961), page 112 (ATL 993.1 MILL). Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - [Title] Compare a similar view by William Fox, WC-327, titled by Fox 'Mr Rees' Station, Lake Wakatipu'. It has been dated by the Library 1864, when Fox is known to have visited Lake Wakatipu. The mill building is not yet present in Fox's view. Description: Shows a view looking down from a rocky outcrop (partially seen in the extreme left foreground), on to the field of a farm with horses, cattle, a farmhouse, outbuildings, and at far right a haystack. A row of trees runs along one of the boundaries of the property, parallel to the river in the background. On the far side of the river are limestone cliffs and hills. The locality is more commonly known as Clifden, and Cyclopedia of New Zealand, volume 4, Otago and Southland, decribes it as having been a large sheep station.
