Description: The papers consist of: Application form and land documents to support the application submitted by Robert Gillow Elliott; history of the family's ownership; Plan of Mangatahi; `The Mangatahi Settlement, particulars, terms and conditions', 1907 (photocopy of printed material). Original owner was Robert William Andrew Elliott who acquired 568 acres of the Mangatahi Block by ballot in 1907. On his death in 1933 the farm was run as an estate by his wife Ruby. After her death it was farmed in partnership by their children Joyce and Robert. After three years Robert leased his sister's share, until 2003 when he bought her out. In 2007 it was being run by Robert's son David. In 2007 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Description: Land clearance and development projects during the 1950s. Photographs show examples of techniques and machinery used for bringing in land such as rolling and crushing scrub and using cattle to crush and clear lupins. Much of the land developed for agriculture during this period was pumice land. There is a slide sequence designed to show methods for establishing pasture on this particular soil type, and a number of other slides showing the finished product -- productive farms in the Rotorua area. Landblocks named in this collection are, Newstead Block, "Rushden" Waipukurau, Lynwood F. S., and Okahukura Block.
