Description: Album recording a motoring and camping holiday through the South Island of New Zealand. This took in the New Zealand South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and included the West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury. The central part of the album has images of Khandallah, Wellington, and the family home in that suburb. Family photographs include Doug on his Norton Motorcycle, and Jack and Neville similarly posed on a Douglas Motorcycle. Rene and Frank stand at the net holding tennis rackets, and mother has several images with young Joyce. The last part of the album recordes something of a holiday to Auckland where the family camped at Brown's Bay and took a trip to Kawau Island. A group shot on Mt Messanger on the way back and some views of Pukekura Park New Plymouth complete the album Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).
Denniston, the incline, and Burnett's Face

Description: The album opens with a photograph of a locomotive used in shunting coal trucks. This is followed by three images of Denniston incline seen from a distance, a view of Conns Creek Yards and another of the breakhead which was the top incline terminal at Denniston. There are images of the double cable roperoad railway crossing an iron trestle bridge with coal trucks on their way to and from the mines to the incline. The album also contains three images of a model of the iron trestle bridge constructed for the Westport Coal Company. One section of the album contains seven images of the Township of Denniston. There are views of the town seen from a distance on the edge of the plateau. Other views show the the basic rather primitive character of the place - many simple weatherboard cottages without gardens or fences among the ruined stumps of native trees in a town with few formed streets. Description: The first ten images are views of Denniston and the Camp under snow. These images include distant views and views within the town showing houses and streets. One image shows coal trucks crossing the trestle bridge in snow covered country side, and another is of the iron bridge in winter. Five images are of waterfalls and scenic features taken along the horse track connecting Denniston with the coastal plain The last eight images are of Westport. One shows a typical villa of the period, another shows the exterior of the Westport Coal Company's laboratory building. There is a view of the railway yards with Denniston coal waiting in trucks. Description: Twelve photographs record a trip to the villages of Naquelewai and Na Soqo beyond the head waters of the Wainimala River in the highlands of eastern Viti Levu in 1968. There are four views of Wanganui dating fom 1955, and two photographs of "Tiny Town", Tāhunanui, Nelson, dated 1952. Four photographs record the Victoria University capping procession in May 1961. The rest are postcards of Wellington, Hastings, St Matthew's church Auckland, and Māori subjects. Description: Most of the New Zealand images relate to the Nelson family, their farms, farm houses, and farm buildings in the Pori area, north eastern Wairarapa, and scenic views of the area such as the Makuri River, a waterfall at Tiraumea, Annedale north of Tainui, the Pori Bridge, and native forest. The images of the farm houses include building a stable and buggy house, views of the yard with washing drying, a hen run, and a view of the dining room at "Ruatea". Four images are of Hugh Nelson's whare which was the first building constructed at "Taumata". There are three photographs of local Maori, one of bullock teams at Tiraumea, snow covered landscape at "Nga Mahanga", a picnic group with horses and buggys, and many views of the countryside from the Nelson farms showing cleared, partially cleared and forested land, much of it covered with the gaunt trunks of burnt off bush. There are group photographs of the families and friends. As well as the men these include women (wives?) Lucy, Katie, and Winifred, and children, Robert, Frances, and Dorothea. Other new Zealand houses include two probably located at Annedale with the names "Te Hoe" and "Manawa", and another in Featherston called "Newstead". The English images are of family and friends and various places, houses and churches which include Dover, Tunbridge Wells, Broadstairs, Minehead, Ostend, Clovelly, Lynton, Lymouth, Doon Valley, Meywingen, St Saviours Leeds, and Chester Cathedral Arrangement: Loose prints originally in this album can be found at PAColl-7868-1 Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).
