Description: Album containing 1928 souvenir booklet celebrating New Zealand's first Commerce Train, which travelled through Auckland Province between 26th October 1928 and 4th November 1928. Souvenir number of the Commerce Train News, published by New Zealand Railways. Bound in with the book are photographs taken by an unidentified passenger on the trip. There are photographs in the booklet, which include several portraits of men on the trip, photographs of farmland, dairy factories, cement works, Arapuni Hydroelectric works showing the dam and the spillway, kauri forests, trains and cars, and group photographs of the personnel. Full lists of personnel are included in the book. Other - Photographs possibly taken by Robert Angus, manager of Cook & Son, Shortland St., Auckland, who was a member of the tour. Description: An album of photographic prints compiled by John Horsman, chiefly relating to road trips with friends in New Zealand and to sightseeing in Japan. Images taken between 1960 to 1969; mostly by Horsman. - One set of images shows Horsman with others [probably former shipmates and a fellow teacher at Okaihau District High School] on holiday in the Bay of Islands, shows: caravaning, beach and bush scenes around Paihia, a ship in the bay, Waitangi flagpole, Cortina and Consul cars. - One set of images of the 'Mon-Star Rally' and the 'Great Northern Rally' holidays shows roadside scenes and beaches around Northland. Also shows various hotels and country pubs: including Rodney Hotel, Warkworth Hotel, Hukerenui Hotel, Okaihau Hotel, Kaitaia Hotel, Awanui Hotel, White Swan Hotel. - One set of images of a road trip via Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Auckland shows: the Picton ferry in Wellington heads, Te Mata Peak views, a viaduct, East Coast farmland, Waikato River, Meremere Power station, Hamilton, Wairakei geothermal power station, Huka Falls, dams on the Waikato River, plus logging trucks and 'Welcome' sign for Tokoroa. - One set of images show sightseeing activites with Japanese woman Midori around shrines, parks, and street in Japan, including: Sika deer, tori and shrines, and Sarusawa Lake at Nara: Motomachi street, geisha [possibly maiko], tori and street scenes in Kobe. Description: Album of newspaper and magazine cuttings, black and white photographs, and prints of colour illustrations. Mostly connected with New Zealand native trees, and the timber industry. There are pages dealing with different native trees, and then with the various processes involved in felling the trees; transportation, including horse-drawn, logging railways, and water-born timber using dams; and timber mills. On page [7] of this album there are three personal photographs taken by John Logan Campbell from his home in Parnell, used as Christmas cards in 1900 and 1901; on page [27] is a print of a photograph originally taken by Albert Percy Godber, showing a poster in Maori warning against carelessness in lighting fires in the bush (see full information about the original, in the record at APG-1454-1/4-G).
