Description: Drawn on a cadastral base map of the Lower Hutt industrial area, bounded by the Waiwhetu River, the Hutt River and the roads Bell, Park, Seaview and Gracefield, the annotations show sections sold (in red) and sections open for selection (in green). The sections are numbered with acreages, and the railway line runs through the area. Areas sold include the names Schweppes Ltd., ESW Paul, Wm Cable & Co., Wellington Concrete Pipe Coy., Ford Motor Co., Hume Pipe Coy., Vacuum Oil Coy., Texas Oil Coy., CH Morley, WA Cairns. Railway workshops, drainage easements, sewers, septic tanks, pumping stations, a quarry and watermains are marked. Areas open for selection are unnamed. Description: Cadastral map with topographical information of the Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa districts from the eastern coast at Castlepoint westwards to the Tararua and Rimutaka Ranges and southwards to Palliser Bay. Coloured areas of the map refer to the reference key; namely Native reserves, Native lands, land under negotiation and Crown land. Over 50 streams have Maori names. Settlements such as Featherston, Greytown, Carterton are indicated. Several settler names are associated with land ownership, including Riddiford, Baxton's, Cameron's, Moores, Guthries, Telfords, Luxfords, Vallance's, Russell, Donalds, Gillies, Bidwill. The names Manaia and Herangi are also indicated. Most coastal land is Crown land while Maori land is concentrated around the Maungaraki and the Pukehinau Ranges. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Geological map of the middle and southern part of the South Island, showing Mantell's route from Akaroa to Kaiapoi, south along the coast to Dunedin and return by sea. Names (mostly in Maori) rivers, coastal areas and lakes. Stuarts (Stewart) Island is shown. Shows Maori tracks from interior lakes to the coast, with travel times in days. Marks 'wahi pounamu', route of the author's track, and the boundary of the land block purchased by Commissioner Henry Tacy Kemp, JP. Also marks rock type as per reference key, including slate and quartz conglomerate, limestone, diluvial, tertiary and green gritty marl. Written on back of map: Map for Dr Mantell on New Zealand ...
