New Zealand Airforce Avro 504 aircraft at Sockburn (Wigram) Aerodrome, and aerial views of Christchurch. Some prints in this collection have notes on the back in a consistant, neat handwriting. In three cases these are signed E N Webster, who advises that he arrived in Wellington 5 February 1918, and left 15 June 1922. During this period, as well as photographing Wellington and district, he travelled on holiday to New Zealand cities and tourist destinations. The photographs were taken between 1919 and 1921 judging from the prints that have dates. His second name was Norman, and this is the name he used to sign letters on postcards sent from Christchurch in 1919 to his mother, and a friend called May. There is also a note attached to an illustration of Ben Lomond in the collection on which he signs himself Norman Webster. Information on the back of postcards indicate that he came from Australia, and in 1916 lived at Nambour, Queensland. Quantity: 150 b&w original photographic print(s).

Description: Album recording a motoring and camping holiday through the South Island of New Zealand. This took in the New Zealand South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin and included the West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury. The central part of the album has images of Khandallah, Wellington, and the family home in that suburb. Family photographs include Doug on his Norton Motorcycle, and Jack and Neville similarly posed on a Douglas Motorcycle. Rene and Frank stand at the net holding tennis rackets, and mother has several images with young Joyce. The last part of the album recordes something of a holiday to Auckland where the family camped at Brown's Bay and took a trip to Kawau Island. A group shot on Mt Messanger on the way back and some views of Pukekura Park New Plymouth complete the album Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).

Cook, Rodney, 1930-: Photographs of hydroelectric power plants on the Waikato River

Description: Photographs of hydroelectric power plants on the Waikato River, at Ohakuri, Waipapa and Aratiatia. Other photographs show the permanent villages at Maraitai and Wairakei, and in particular the community halls built for those villages. The photographs were taken ca 1963 by a Ministry of Works staff photographer. Also included are photographs of Aratiatia power station taken by Rod Cook. Collection also includes aerial photographs of Auckland taken during World War II by an unknown photographer. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Some of these photographs were progress photographs to send to the Head Office Hydro Design in Wellington, but most were taken for a display of Government architectural design work. The Ministry of Works operational centre was at Mangakino, with later a construction group at Aratiatia. Rodney Cook was project architect at Mangakino and then Aratiatia from 1961 to 1964. Description: Postcards of New Zealand made ca 1900s, from photographers who include Frank Denton, Henry Winkelmann and James Valentine. The largest groups are images of Auckland, Christchurch, Dundedin, Invercargill, and Lake Wakatipu. Other places include Wellington, Te Aroha, Nelson, Gore, Pukekura park New Plymouth, Ngaruawahia Bridge, the pink and white terraces, Lake Tarawera, the Whanganui River, Lake Te Anau, the Southern Alps, the Hermitage, and Milford Sound. There are also four portraits of Maori. Quantity: 5 b&w original photographic print(s) postcards. 66 b&w photo-mechanical print(s) postcards, many of which are hand coloured. Provenance: This group of postcards belonged to a Miss A H Jeffs of Hurstville, Sydney, and were sent to her by New Zealand correspondents, who like her, were interested in collecting post card images. The postal dates for all of them are 1906 and 1907.

Description: A spiral bound sketchbook containing 16 black and white photocopies and two loose colour laser copies from Leonard Abbott's 1940 sketchbook, made during his voyages during the second World War. The sketches include ship portraits of the M.V. 'Waiwera', sketches of the Panama Canal, views of Auckland city buildings, Cheltenham Beach at Devonport, Auckland from Ponsonby park, The Bluff and other hills at Napier, hills at the Wellington Harbour heads, a view of Wellington Railway Station and Government buildings from the ship, and a view of Wellington and harbour from the Botanical Gardens. The loose colour laser copies are a ship portrait sketch by Abbott of the M.V. 'Waiwera' and the colour photographic postcard of the same ship at Auckland.
