Description: Cadastral map of the site of the proposed suburb of Putiki, Wanganui, bordered by the Wanaganui River, Awarua Stream and the Great North Western Road. Includes the sites of church mission premises, a mill and a dam. Land sections owned by Maori, including acreages, are shown across the other side of the road. Includes written descriptions of the terrain. Description: Cadastral map of the Pito-one Town Board, showing sections 1-8 and 79, street layout, property boundaries, numbered residential sections, dwellings, railways, businesses and cemeteries. The town is divided into the west and north east wards, and is bounded by sections 19, 78 (Te Raho Kapawai), 16, 17, 9 and 10 and the Maungaraki Native (Maori) reserve. The map includes a large Public Works Department, the Pito-one Station, a brewery, timber yard, the Gear Company Works and wharf, Marine Retreat Hotel, woollen factory, schools, Wainuiomata waterworks main, Waltonville, the Working Men's Club, Oddfellows Hall, churches, and two Maori cemeteries (urupa) along the esplanade. Names on the map include: Te Ahi Parara, Te Upoko o te Poaka, Mr Tyer, Mr Kelly (shoemaker), Matene Tauwhare, Mr Reston, Mr Manning, Mr Ridler, Mr Chapman, Dr Hector and Mr E Barber. Named land lots include Davy, Chamberlin, Turton, Johnston, Johstone [sic], Wallis, Cox, Sutton, Moon, A.B.G., Jo. Harota, Stewart, Purgusson, J. Moon, G. Moon, Cogswell, J. Description: A base map of numbered rural sections with acreages has been used to feature some sections which are colour washed and include owners' names. A.P. Stuart, J.P. Stuart, J.D. Baird & Co., W.B. Rhodes, J. Dransfield. The sum total of these acreages, with monetary cost, is annotated in pencil in the margin. Four sections are outlined and annotated as Bunnythorpe township. A note along the Taonui Creek states that this is good land. A second note in the margin states the site of the township of Feilding. Title supplied from the largest of the parts of two base maps which have been glued together. This main map supplies most of the information, E. Bellairs was the lithographer, H. Jackson the Chief surveyor, but the creator of the annotations is unknown. The second title, Plan of rural sections in the township of Palmerston, District of Manawatu, is on the left and this part of the map has very little detail, W.W.J. Spreat was the lithographer.
