Description: Photographs of the South Island of New Zealand taken by Les Cleveland, 1956 to 1958. Information relating to the content as well as the date taken and the date printed, is on the rear of most prints. Most prints relate to the West Coast Region, but also some images of Nelson, Canterbury, and Otago regions. Identified people are: Kopara Sawmill workers Bill Brown, Owen Jacobs, Morry Pullman, Hans Van Ruyven, Jimmy Birchfield, Doug Macalister, Joe Kavanagh, Neil McLean, Archy Fluerty, saw doctor John Henry Ord, Ted McGhie; licensee of Nelson Creek Hotel D Graham; Dorothy Debenham; Mick Bowie, and chief guide at Mt Cook Hermitage. Unidentified people include a female French tourist and some children. Featured natural environments include Karamea beach scenes, mining and sawmilling sites, and Buller Gorge. Featured town sequences include Reefton and Nelson's Creek houses and businesses, many of which are derelict. Description: Throughout the album are many photographs of family, friends, children babies and weddings, some of which are identified by name. The two main places depicted are Christchurch and New Plymouth. Groups on Mount Taranaki/Egmont and views on and arround the mountain also crop up throughout the album. Young women at Canterbury University College, particularly groups associated with Helen Connon Hall. A group of women in the Canterbury Teachers' Training College basketball team. Some photographs of people playing tennis. Touring and camping trips to places like Stoney Creek (near Balclutha?) and the Awakino Valley. Other places represented are Rotorua where a holiday was taken in 1924. Tauranga, its waterfront, and yachting in the harbour. Some views of Wellington. At one point in the album groups of photographs appear that indicate a trip overseas taken in 1926. These include - Elephant and keepers, probably Sri Lanka. Landscape views, India. The Taj Mahal. England which includes photographs of the historian Angus John Harrop and his sister among the colleges of Cambridge University. Group visiting the Malvern Hills. Passengers and officers on the ship `Beltana'. A children's party on the ship. South Africa, Durban and Cape Town. Australia 1926 - Adelaid Sydney and Melbourne. Description: Photograph album detailing the work of Minister Michael Moohan, Oct-Nov 1960. Events covered are mainly openings of buildings relating to railways and post offices. These feature speeches, dignitaries, and the facilities, including: Porirua-Mana railway deviation and duplication (7 Nov); Titahi Bay Post Office (18 Nov); Railways Travel Centre in Rotorua (15 Nov); Christchurch Railway Station (also covered is the first meeting held in its conference facility) (1 Nov); East Linwood Post Office, Christchurch (1 Nov); Lake Road Post Office, Takapuna, North Shore, Auckland (26 Oct); railway tranship shed, Frankton, Hamilton (25 Oct); and the Longburn railway bridge (18 Oct). Description: Photographs of the South Island of New Zealand taken by Les Cleveland, 1942 to 1956. Information relating to the content as well as the date taken and the date printed, is on the rear of most prints. Identified people are mountaineers A C Clough, Ron Biggs, and Ken Hall; publican Jack Ritchie; journalist H J E (Bert) Kane; Mrs P Koerstens; and bushmen Doug Macalister and Ron (Tiki) Brimmicombe. There is an unidentified solider and some portraits of unidentified children. Featured natural environments include Tatere Gorge, Lake Haupiri and surrounding area, and the Otira Gorge. Contains prints of individual buildings as well as broader views of towns. A number of wooden buildings are in a state of decay, but houses, churches, and other buildings are still in use. Further images (and series of images) of note include: the transportation by boat of a tractor at Milford sound and a Land Rover to Jackson's Bay; workers at the Kopara Sawmill; industry at Mussel Point; and locomotives, boilers, dredges, and other machinery relating to mining.
