Description: A collection of postcards and printed views (possibly from a magazine) of New Zealand scenes primarily of towns and cities rather than scenic views. They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Also included are five original photographs which have been captioned with the family connections: a soldier in uniform, possibly named Ralph Ferguson; Uncle Henry Babe's wedding photograph; cousin Violet Bradford in America; Albert and Elizabeth (Eliza) Babe (brother and sister) and four others; Thomas and Fanny Babe (grandpa and grandma) with Eliza, Harold, Albert, Olivia, Queenie and Gladys. Description: Photograph album formerly belonging to Kathleen Frances Viard Nimmo. Contains black and white photographs showing family and friends on the beach and yachting around Eastbourne and Wellington Harbour, and possibly the Marlborough Sounds. Probably taken between 1915 and 1929 by unknown photographers. Points of interest are four young men in army uniforms circa World War One, young women in 1920s fashions with sunhats and parasols on the beach, dinghies and yachts off Rona Bay, yachts assembled off Point Howard beach before a regatta, people and a car parked outside a bach, a view looking down a gully past farmland to houses on Wellington harbour, small cottages and bachs, ladies posing on a seawall stair, yachts under sail in Lambton Harbour, a party coming ashore from a yacht by dinghy. The rest of the collection includes: a street scene in front of the old railway station; a cycling race; men rowing and canoeing; children playing in a swing park; a brass band playing on board a steamer; various beach scenes including donkey rides; train pulling into Kaiapoi station; a small bach; two girls next to a waterfall; trams and a cyclist going past the Jubliee Clock Tower; the front facade of St Paul's Presbyterian Church; three views of the old Public Hospital next to Hagley Park; the Chamber of Commerce building on the corner of Oxford Terrace and Worcester Street; a copy negative of a carte de visite of a couple kissing; a monument incorporating a tiki on a tall pole and other maori carvings (location unknown); a man at the doorway of his shed with an array of gardening implements; two men pulling a covering back from a hangi pit; the cathedral with a number of trams in front; a tram advertising Ballantynes; a kitchen interior showing a range with kettles on top and a cupboard and dresser with crockery; six Maori on horseback possibly in a procession; a porter bringing a cart of luggage up to a train; five men giving friends piggy backs on the beach; sheep being driven past stock yards; the Avon River; a crowd outside the Avon Rowing Club; Wilson the maltman's horse and cart crossing a bridge; and two images of a harvest festival in a hall with a painted back drop and sheaves of corn arranged in front of it. Description: Group of people photographed seated on the ground. Groups of flax plants are behind them, and coastal plants in the foreground. Photographed by an unknown photographer in about 1914. Though the date of "about 1905" is inscribed on the back of the orignal mount, the clothes of the women are the every day wear of 1913 - 1918. I have opted for a pre World War One date (ie the summer of 1914) because two of the women are wearing the very large hats that, generically, belong to the period 1908-1915. On the other hand it may be later. One of the men is wearing a military hat, but then he may be member of the local volunteers.
