Description: Watercolour shows the south Wairarapa coast, possibly near Te Kopi looking west from near Cape Palliser, with dwellings and probably a whaling station (Wades Whaling Station? as mentioned in the Wellington Spectator of 1844) in the centre. Several men stand on the steep hillside at the right. The foreground terrain is covered with low scrub. Pencil sketch is a preliminary sketch for PLate 12 in "Illustrations to adventure in New Zealand" (1845), showing two food drying platforms in the right foreground, the curve of Porirua Harbour, and the entrance to Paremata Harbour in the right distance.
