Description: Album of publicity photographs including designs for advertisements for use in the new Zealand Railway Magazine; designs for posters for use in Railways Ticket Offices and one for a large neon lighting sign "Suggested `Claude Neon' Display for New Zealand Railway Publicity Department, Wellington. `Travel by train'". One photograph is entitled "`Post' corner 1880. Now site of King's Chambers". A number of images show a [Labour Day?] parade of marching people, and floats some of which are advertising NZ Railways holiday destinations, with slogans reading `Come to Rotorua', `Come to Waitomo', `Come to The Chateau Tongariro'. There are designs of title pages for the New Zealand Railways Magazine; a view of a commemorative key with a sheaf of corn on the handle in a presentation box; and designs for a programme of events surround the laying of the foundation stone for the new Government Railway Station, Wellington, N.Z. by HRH the Duke of Gloucester, December 17th 1934. These are followed by photographs taken during the Duke's tour of New Zealand, including crowd scenes in Wellington, Maori celebrations of welcome at Ngaruawahia, and scenes in the Rotorua thermal area. There are a few individual and group portraits of the management and administrative staff of New Zealand Railways, most unidentified. There are also an old photograph of W Stack's Hotel in Hastings with men and horses outside (in poor condition); a woman in what may be a 1930 Chrysler Plymouth with another snow away from the tyres; the gravestone of Julius von Haast; Queen's Wharf, Wellington showing a recently returned troop transport ship; an orchestra performing at the 1907 Christchurch exhibition; men of the No. 19 Platoon with a car at the summit of the Rimutakas; postcard from P B Davis to Mr A French showing a group of First World War soldiers with the message that they are about to leave for France; and six children at the base of a large Maori carving with a bell attached at Ohinemutu. Description: Colour transparency slides of New Zealand scenes, taken ca mid to late 1950s and 1960s by Peter Vaizey Conley. This set are taken in the North Island, chiefly coastal views. All are unidentified but the photographer has described this set as 'Picton to Days Bay', 'Muritai [Road, Lower Hutt?] to Wellington Airport', 'Hamilton to Ngaruawahia', 'Waihi Gorge to Tauranga', 'Whakatane to Rotorua', 'Russell to Bay of Islands,' 'Wairoa', and 'North Auckland to Ohope'. Includes: Views of a harbour, taken onboard a ship, possibly showing the Cook Strait and Malborough Sounds from the inter-island ferry. There are several views of an unidentified bay, possibly Days Bay, Eastbourne. Two slides of geothermal activity, Wairekei, Taupo District. Miscellaneous images show an unidentified woman, sitting on the bonnet of a Volkswagen motorcar, and standing on volcanic rock formations at an unidentified ocean bay.
