Description: Copy of a hand-drawn map of two adjointing sections of farm land adjacent to the Harataunga Harbour, now known as Kennedy Bay, and bordered by the Whareroa and Ohinau Streams, Puketutu and Kaotara Hills and Rangitahi. One section has the names of Nathan Kennedy & Brothers, while the second has McGregor & Atkinson's names, together with acreages. The McGregor & Atkinson property includes the location of a sawmill and wharf, buildings are indicated and one is named 'Mr. Atkinson's'. A handwritten note on the original, written within this section states 'Grant to J. Cruikshank, Nov. 26th., 1867. 12.15a Sol 155'. Within the section of Nathan Kennedy & brothers, the note states 'Grant to Mr. J. Kennedy, Nov 26th, 1867. 12.15a Sol 155'. Includes references to Native land and Mr. D. Lowe's land. On the opposite side of the harbour, a settlement is marked and the site of a Maori church. A handwritten note on the top left states: 'The copy of a map deposited in this office. ... Description: A base map of Lake Taupo showing urban zones, existing, proposed and national reserves has been possibly used by the Officials Committee to hilight the lakeshore reserves and to mark boundaries of blocks, the extent of development, also present development and development not started, all of which are referred to in keys. Numerous pencilled notes refer to Maori land ownership and written topographical descriptions of some reserves. Description: Contains official copies of correspondence relating to land claims from Te Tai Tokerau and Pewhairangi (i.e. Bay of Islands, the word is a transliteration), Waikato and Whanganui. Includes various documents relating to Whanganui giving extensive lists of names for the purchase of guns, powder and flint by Whanganui Maori; lists of Whanganui Maori working for the Regional Magistrate and their salaries; census of friendly natives, Whanganui district. The last document is the original of the deed by which Nopera Parakareao and other Te Rarawa chiefs sold the Muriwhenua lands of Te Aupouri to the Rev Richard Taylor, witnessed by William Gilbert Puckey, 20 January 1840. A translation of this in Taylor's hand is in MS-Papers-0075-106E. Written only two weeks before the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi to secure private property rights for Taylor (before the arrival of Hobson and the signing of the Treaty) but the publication of Gipps's proclamations of 14 January 1840 invalidated the sale. Description: A base map of lands open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, in the Pukemapou settlement, West Taupo County. The boundaries of farm blocks, Sections 1S to 12S, are prominently outlined and include owners' names and applicable dates handwritten in each section. The entire settlement is surrounded by a rabbit-proof fence and fencelines within the sections are marked as P&W and P&N. A good metal road, waterfall and the Waikeria Stream are marked. Section 1S is labelled 'Reproclaimed DSSA', Section 3S is labelled 'Forf' (i.e. forfeited), both having Gazetteer numbers. Descriptions of the state of the agricultural land is included. Windmills, a stable and homestead are marked. Six references are made to Rangitoto 'A' sections and Mangaorongo S.D. id written prominently close the boundaries of the subdivisions. The base map itself is of sections in the Pukemapou settlement of West Taupo County which includes the Mangaorongo S.D. Auckland Land District No. 1386. A schedule of this district includes the valuations, acreages and rent. Instructions to applicants and a caution follow with the printed name of H.M. Skeet, Commissioner of Crown Lands. Includes an abstract of conditions of lease. A statement on the left side of the map begins with '1,122 acres' while the statement on the reverse map begins 'Lands for sale or lease to discharged soldiers'. Includes the application date of 21 February 1921 at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland. The inset map is a locality plan of the area from Dargeville to Bream Bay south to Te Kuiti and Tolaga Bay. Pukemapou is indicated by a red arrow, east of Otorohanga on the verso map. Description: This map covers the area from Maungatautari Mountain and the upper reaches of River Waikato to the mouth of the River Waihou entering the Firth of Thames, and including Tauranga Harbour. Settlements, pa, mountain ranges, rivers, streams and lakes are marked, as are numerous sites of fights accompanied by a record of numbers killed. The Te Aroha block is prominently shaded as are adjacent areas which appear to be jointly claimed by Ngatihaua and Ngaiterangi. Boundaries of other Maori land are marked by dotted lines, some of which are named as follows:- Ngatiraukawa lands, Ngatihaua lands, Ngaiterangi lands, Hauraki lands, Waikato lands. Limits of the scale of this map have been marked with red pencil to allow for changes in size during photocopying. The orientation of this map faces south. Description: A base map of lands for selection on renewable lease at Puketarata has been used to emphasise the boundaries of farm blocks which are prominently outlined and include owners' names followed by R.L. (i.e. renewable lease) and applicable dates handwritten in each section. Swamps, lagoons, drained land and drains are marked and the state of the agricultural land is described. Sheds, stacks, styes, a silo and residences are marked. The direction of Kiokio Railway Station - 5 1/2 miles is marked as is Ouruwhero Block - native owners, and the main highway Otorohanga to Kihikihi. The base map itself is of sections 1S to 5S of the Puketarata settlement, Block XIV, Puniu Survey District. Auckland Land District No. 1500. An extensive statement on the left side of the map begins with the reference number 21/149/1042 followed by the heading Lands for Settlements Act. Details of lands for selection on renewable lease include the date of 23rd. May 1930 at the District Lands and Survey office, Auckland. A schedule of the five sections includes the valuations, acreages, rent and the statement 'Purchased from R.H. Hole, Esq.'.
