Description: "M" 90; an M class steam locomotive, type 0-6-0T. This image is a glass copy negative made by Albert Percy Godber from his own original print in an album. Godber's son William Albert Godber is standing on the far right. There is another inscription above this image which relates to another photograph in the Godber album. Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - centre right - W.A.G. Napier. 1922 "M" 90 was originally built as 0-6-0T type by Hunslet (maker's no 141/75), went into service in December 1875. It was modified to the 2-4-4T type in 1890 at the Addington Workshops, and was written off in October 1928. Description: Photographs of and relating to the Wilson family ex Eketahuna. William M Wilson was born in Glasgow in 1868, coming to New Zealand when 8 years of age. He was apprenticed to John Fitchett, coach builder in Wellington, then with other firms including Rouse & Hurrell. He was employed by Wilfred Woolf in Eketahuna in 1894, and subsequently bought his business, and entered the firm of Kibblewhite and Wilson. Godber album 6

Description: Photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1905 and 1907, covering a variety of topics. They include family photographs, both individual and group portraits, and Wellington houses (eg `Railway Whare', the house Godber and his family lived in, in Bay Street, Petone). One scene shows Godber's parents, Mary Ann and Charles Godber, with a large group of family members, including Albert Percy Godber, his wife Laura, and two children, Phyllis and William (p.21). On p. 13, Godber's wife Laura and two children are seen with an elderly couple, probably Laura's parents Charles Albert and Magdelina Clara Zinckgraf. Numbers of images show scenes associated with New Zealand Railways, including the Mataroa Railway Tunnel under construction, specific locomotives, signal stations, the railway station at Petone, and scenes at the Petone Railway Workshops. At the beginning of the album, several images show Godber and a team from the Petone Fire Brigade with medals they have won at fire-fighting practice competitions. A pocket at the front of the album holds two photographs, on of a new cutting on the road near Lowry Bay, and one of the `model of `D' class locomotive used in the Petone Peace Demonstration Procession' following the Boer War in 1902, signed `With A.P. Searle album 2

Description: Album of photographs chiefly taken by Roland James Searle, circa 1930s. The first subject is the opening of the Wellington Citizens' War Memorial (Cenotaph), and includes a programme of the dedication and handing over on Sunday 17th April, 1932 (p 001-012). That is followed by the consecration ceremony for the National War Memorial and War Memorial Carillon (again with a copy of the programme), held on Anzac Day, April 25th, 1932 (p 015-023). Pages 029-033 show the arrival of the Wellington Jubilee Dock in 1931, the floating dock which was towed from England by two Dutch tugboats. The next sequence is entitled "The Express pulls out - Thorndon", and follows the Express to Wanganui where views show a river-boat trip up the Whanganui River (p 037-056), and include a map of historical areas on the river compiled by Annabell & Marchant, surveyors of Wanganui (p 055). The train trip is continued in the next section, and includes an illustrated diagram of the Raurimu Spiral, then arrival at the new Beach Road Auckland Railway Station. Photographs of Auckland include the Auckland Institute and Museum, Auckland University, Grafton Bridge, a sailing ship at the wharves, and the Auckland Zoo. Further North there are scenes of ploughing, a mine entrance, rock formations at Waro, and the Taheke Falls; before travelling to Rotorua and the surrounding thermal regions. A number of images were taken at Whakarewarewa, including photos of Paul Thomas and his wife, along with scenes showing women washing clothes in hot pools, a woman with a baby on her back holding a rope with a food basket cooking in the pool, children in a hot pool, and men at work carving. Paul Thomas wrote to thank Searle for sending him copies of photographs (p 101, written on May 1st 1932). Later photographs again with the train often in view show timber felling and milling, and views of the Arapuni hydroelectic power station. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Travel in New Zealand

Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides has two sequences which are not in chronological order. (Information from his diary). Slides nos. 433-443 show areas of the North Island around the Dargaville and Whangarei area, including Maungatapere peak, the Wairua Gorge and Wairua Falls, the Whangaroa volcanic ridge and tree ferns, McLeod Bay and pampas grass, Whangarei from Memorial Hill, the Whangarei Falls, and Whangarei Heads. These were taken sometime between April and May 1959. Slides nos. 444-456 show parts of the South Island including Invercargill; Bluff, a lighthouse near Bluff; the Invermay Agricultural Centre on the Taieri Plains; Dunedin, Otago Harbour, Larnach Castle, and early steam engines on display in Dunedin; section of road between Dunedin and Christchurch taken from a bus. These were taken circa February 16-21 1959. Slides on this sheet are numbered 433-456 with no gaps. Arrangement: None of this sheet of slides were taken as part of a representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. It was designed by G A Pearson for use on the Rimutaka Incline. Because of faults in the mechanism it was modified with an outside exhaust, and an additional expansion dome, ca 1912; broken up in 1917. Description: Cartoon shows the the Kingston Flyer which is a vintage steam train operating in the South Island of New Zealand at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu. It uses 14 kilometres of preserved trackage that once formed a part of the Kingston Branch. Text reads that 'while hundreds of Australian queens fly in for Gay Ski Week......an old king is grounded. A signpost reads 'No toot toot...run out of loot,loot!' The 'queens' refers to the hundreds of gay men and women who will arrive from all over the world to celebrate the 7th year Annual Gay Ski Week NZ from 29 August to 6 September, 2009; and the 'king' to the Kingston Flyer, which has run into financial difficulties and although a highly popular heritage item for the tourism industry, will not be bailed out by the government who say it is 'just one of many companies suffering in the economic downturn'.
