Description: Shows two rather elegantly dressed figures on a stretch of road at the right foreground. The road skirts around a small bluff, and is separated from the water by a gently sloping rocky face. In the distance is the future site of Wellington City. Description: Shows a view of a clay road cut around bush-covered hills, towards a river valley beyond, with further hills in the distance. The work is initialled WFB at lower left, and notes on the verso therefore suggest the artist may be William Francis Barraud. However the subject, style and size have resemblance to work by John Atherton Horsfall (1819-1900), who painted in New Zealand in around 1875.
