Description: Shows a view of tents and a hilltop fort of Rahotu, based on a component of the illustrated page by George Sherriff, in the "Graphic" (London), 8th April 1882, page 340. The rather faded photograph by W A Collis shows a group of eleven uniformed men standing in front of a building. The men appear to be wearing kilts and a wide diagonal shoulder band stretching from left shoulder to right waist. Handwritten text on the back of the photograph says: "The subscriber wishes Henry Hobson God speed on his journey and hopes that in after time this indifferent photograph may bring pleasant recollections of early comradeships in arms. Scenes of Parihaka, especially with relationship to the 1881 incident, include views of the pa (with Te Whiti's house visible); the Rahotu volunteer camp, the Rahotu Redoubt; Fort Rolleston; Sentry Hill; Pungarehu officers' quarters and redoubt; Nelson Camp; the Taranaki Rifles and Wellington Navals. Scenic views in the area show Mount Egmont, Bell's Falls, the `Meeting-of-the-Waters', White Cliffs, Sugar Loaf Islands, the New Plymouth breakwater, and views of the New Plymouth Recreation Ground.
