Description: A church and mission station on the north side of the Waingaro (Raglan) Harbour, Waikato. Te Horea, the first mission station of James and Mary Ann Wallis is shown. There are Maori and Pakeha walking up the path to the church, others standing on the bank of the river and two canoes emptying their passengers, with three more drawing up. The library holds a similar view at B-088-014. Derived with considerable alteration from Baxter print in: The Wesleyan juvenile offering. London, 1846. Frontispiece. Description: A church and mission station on the north side of the Waingaroa (Raglan) Harbour, Waikato. The mission station and church established by the Rev. James Wallis at Nihinihi is shown. There are Maori and Pakeha walking up the path to the church, others standing on the bank of the river and two canoes emptying their passengers, with three more drawing up. Based on an original ink and watercolour by Rev. James Wallis, 1809-1896, showing the Wesleyan settlement at Te Horea (on the north side of Raglan Harbour), ca 1836. Original held in Methodist Missionary Society, London. The Library holds a photograph of the original, negative 22548 1/2. cf. A-015-025, a chomolithograph by an unknown artist derived from this print, but altered in a number of details, most noticeably in the configuration of the canoes. Note that the Ellis number for the Baxter print (Ellis 168), while correctly describing the Baxter print, is illustrated on the opposite page with the later chromolithograph. (E. M. & D. G. Ellis.
